Spero vi piaccia questa immagine che mostra Cassano Irpino, un tranquillo paese collinare, il posto della mia foto precedente, The old station

Il toponimo risale all’età romana e deriva dal nome della “gens Cassia” e dal suffisso aggettivale –anus, ed indica un praedium Cassianum, ossia un latifondo o una villa rustica appartenente a quella famiglia (nella foto la costruzione più alta è appunto il Palazzo baronale e nel corso degli anni da lì si è costituito il primo nucleo abitativo).
Cassano Irpino, situato su di una collina, è noto anche come “Terra delle acque” per la ricchezza delle sorgenti del suo territorio, infatti, ivi nascono quattro sorgenti che alimentano il fiume Calore che è un poco più a valle, e diversi acquedotti di comuni anche della regione Puglia.
I terreni sono a coltivazione mista: seminativi, vigneti, ed ortaggi. Il prodotto agricolo d’eccellenza è senz’altro la castagna; infatti, con i comuni di Bagnoli Irpino e Montella, è tra i maggiori produttori della zona. Tipica è la Sagra della Castagna D.O.C. momento per festeggiare ogni anno il raccolto e per farsi anche una bella bevuta di buon aglianico in compagnia!

The place name date back to the roman age and it derives from the name of the "gens Cassia" and from the adj. suffix -anus, and indicates a praedium Cassianum, that is possession or a peasant villa pertaining to that family (in the photo the higher construction is exactly the “baronial Palace” once “The castle”, and in the course of the years from there the first inhabited nucleus has been developped).

Cassano Irpino, situated on a hill, is famous also as "Earth of waters" for the wealth of sources of its territory, in fact, here have origin four sources that feed the river Calore that is little more downward, and various aqueducts of the commons also of the Apulia region.

The lands are to mixed cultivation: arables, vineyards, and vegetables. The agricultural product of excellence is with any doubts the chestnut; in fact, with the common of Bagnoli Irpino and Montella is between the greater producers of the zone. Typical moment in order to celebrate every year the harvest is the Festival of the chestnuts , also to drink some good wine in good company!
