Like saying in the presentation of the previous photos,
Summonte enjoys one exceptional position, like a balcony on the Irpinia. Two are the important manifestations for the Community: the festival of the chestnut and the international review of ethnic music.
The Festival of the chestnut:
Inserted along the ways of the small medieval village, in a wonderful typically mountain frame, carries out the Festival, whose characteristic is that one, is to exalt and to celebrate the chestnut of the Partenio (You may see in WS), that it has been for centuries one of the main nutriments of the Summontesi, and is to show the beauties of the country.
The first Festival of the Chestnut was kept in year 1982 for initiative of some Summontesi young people, pushes from that desire of rebirth that pervase all the Irpinia in the successive period to the earthquake of the 23/11/1980. The requirement was felt to construct something that it joined and it joined in order to find again the roots of the past, than the earthquake in a sure way had carried away.
The International Review of Ethnic Music:
is carried out in July and wants to be the possible ways in order to recover and to safeguard those values that does good to the collectivity and that it gives to the new generations new opportunities and it is worth to say to be confronted with other traditions, other people, other cultures.
Numerous they are the artists who have made show to
Summonte, artists of the bore of Bregovic, Youssou`N Dour, Peppe Barra, artists from Pakistan, Turkey, Palestin, Iraq, Colombia, Algeria, Spain, etc...


The title it is a hope for these small countries that can raise again from the deep sleep in which lie from centuries, for being able itself to give a new impulse, new lymph and opportunity to the young people, more and more ready to go away.
