[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note [Italian]
The third image that I introduce you more gives near, is a “Rione”. Considerated to along a shame, brought back to new life from the Unesco in 1993, are mades of a tangle of houses dug in the tufo, of alleys and rocky churches.
From the ancient coves the job precise and patient of the man has gained during the time more than 3000 rooms, inhabited until 1952. Of these, 1600 entire are dug in the cliff and often set one on the other. The remaining coves have been instead used like wine cellars. Numerous the great “Cisterne” (Reserviors), dug in the depth of the ground destined to conserve the water in order to maintain it always fresh and drinkable.
Along the way they dull nearly suddenly the bell towers of the churches. They are approximately 80, of which 60 rocky, embellished from valuable Byzantines frescoes.

The artistic handicraft borned just between the “Rioni” of “Sassi”, and still today the craftsmen, heirs of old secrets, work the wood, the tufa, the paper-maché, the clay, creating small and unique masterpieces. Carpenters and carvers manifacture furnitures and typical objects of the peasant civilization like chests, cribs, spoons in wood. The ceramists produces water jugs, cups, little statues and a particular whistle “cuccù” saying, in polychrome terracotta.

From the post-war period until today Matera has however known they give (saputo darsi) one new dimension of modern city even if its roots always sink in the most solid traditions. Programmed a visit the 2 July (festivity of the Madonna di Bruna) and you will realize. The festivity goes back at least to 1300 and proposed again, today like once, the procession of the sacred statue of the “Bruna” one on the Triumphal Cart, cart that comes attacked and destroyed in public square once deposited the statue in the Cathedral. The reasons of such gesture forgiveness in the night of the times...

Very nice composition. I love the similarity to all the buildings and the uniformity of your composition.

I think the conversion to black and white could be better, although I couldn't do it, perhaps some photoshop pro could do a nice workshop.
