Photographer’s Note
Along the coast of Italy travelling north from Tropea is the town of Maratea and high above on Mt. San Biagio (640 mtr), overlooking the Gulf of Policastro stands this wonderful statue of Christ the Redeemer. The statue was designed by Bruno Innocenti. The Redeemer was finished in 1965. The statue is made of concrete with a facing of white Carrera marble and stands 22 meters—or 72 feet—high. The Redeemer of Maratea has arms upraised almost to a 45-degree angle and approx 19 mtr in width. To reach the statue you drive up a switch back road built into the side of the mountain. It is an awe inspiring drive to reach an awe inspiring sight!
