Photographer’s Note

An image with a seagull and a sunset, from the cliffs close to the Maratea coastline, looking down in the Mediterranean Sea.
An old image of 13 years ago during a 3 weeks tour of South Italy (Calabria, Puglia, Campania and Basilicata) and minor islands (Ventotene, Santo Stefano, Ponza...).
Me, my girlfriend (today my wife) and a couple of friends. All 4 in my old Renault Clio (for American people, Clio it's one of our European small urban car that in your Countries are just used by the children in the parks!).
4 weeks around the not well know deep South, visiting the small village on the mounts where the old women are still dressed totally in black, findin' polite people, excellent food, wonderful sea and mountains.

Stunning! Simple and so elegant! It looks like a painting. When I was a kid I used to draw scenes like this one. Lovely and somehow powerful. A call for Freedom ;o)

i can see some noise, but i don't object to graininess and since the image is scanned, i don't see it as a big problem.

This one is beautiful Paolo. Another astonished and full of impact shot to me. This color frontier freely gone through by the bird is a great symbolic picture to me. How hard it can be to go from one place to another freely when you're a human being... something about relativity, I guess.

Hello Paolo,
I discover this picture with a delight cause it's really a brilliant one ... as if it was taken with an ooold cam. So minimalistic, very pure, 2 colors and a shadow of seagull, nothing more nothing less, excellent !

The idea is great, but technically not so.
Too much noise and too much blur.
Too bad, because it really could be a great photo.

P.S:I'm gonna watch the game today, I hope the best team wins and no player is injured. I sympathize with ausies but I think Italy is too strong. Good luck.

Hi Paolo,

At first I was not convinced by this one, the seagull and everything looked blurry... But the more I look at this photo, the more I see it as an abstract, minimalistic, shot and the more I like it. If you look at it this way, then the blurriness works in its favour, and then there are there two colours and the gull on the border... Good work!

The image has a very strong resemblance to the little I remember of the movie, 'Jonathan Livingston Seagull'... or is it the book cover?? anyway, it has a strong philosophical/spiritual feel. Well seen and captured!
