Bell Tower of Duomo Photo

Photographer’s Note

Unfortunately during my visit in Lecce this month the Duomo was under restore, so I photographed only the Bell Tower. I'll show you The Duomo as soon as possible.

The Duomo (cathedral) of Lecce is one of the most important in Italy. It was originally built in 1144, and again in 1230. It was however totally restored in the years 1659-70 by Giuseppe Zimbalo, also designer of the 70 m-high bell tower. The latter has five floors (only three in the photo, due to the scaffoldings posed in the first and the second floor) and ends with an octagonal loggia. Cause its highness and consequently for its visibility the Bell tower served in 1873-74 for the geodetic measurements, like apex of a triangle with the islands of Saseno and Fanòs in Ionian Sea.

Hello Stella,
This Bell Tower looks wonderful against the colour of the sky, it contrasts well. The detail can be seen clearly because of the good quality of your image. Great POV.

My Dear Stella,

Although I have submitted my grades, commencement is over, and I am happy not to be grading any work for a month (I will teach Nucear Physics from May 21-June 21), I have decided to come out of this short break and assign one more grade for the past semester. For the perspective, composition, exposure in this detail shot (including the colors and definition) and for the informative note. The bell tower of the Duomo gets an A+. The 70 meter high bell tower is over 20 stories!

ci stai delizianzo con l'architettura leccese (non so neanche se e' giusto il termine),molto bello il pov la luce e il contrasto .

Hi Stella!

Simple but perfect composition. I can't imagine a better presentation of this beautiful belltower. Great light managment too! I have heard from friends that Lecce is a beautiful city. Is it true?
