Leaving On A Jet Plane Photo

Photographer’s Note

Well my house is adjacent to Brindisi airport so the easiest thing it could happen to me is to see an airplane leaving or landing, but surely photographing it, it's another story.

After several attempts I liked this one.

Aviation history deals with the development of mechanical flight, from the earliest attempts in kite-powered and gliding flight, to the demonstration of sustained, controlled and powered heavier-than-air flight, and beyond.

Leonardo da Vinci's (15th c.) dream of flight found expression in several designs, but he did not attempt to demonstrate flight.

It was in post-industrial Europe from the late 18th century that serious attempts at flight took place, with progression from lighter-than-air (hot-air balloons, 1783), unpowered heavier-than-air (Otto Lilienthal, 1891), and finally, powered, sustained, flight (Wright Brothers, 1903).

Un'immagine diversa, e ben composta. L'aereo nero e; nel punto piu' illuminato, e stacca bene con lo sfondo, che e' reso interessante dalle nuvole di tutti i tipi e forme. Forse hai accentuato troppo il contrasto dei bordi in post produzione, perche' attorno all'aereo c'e' un bordino bianco che e' tipico dell'eccessivo contrasto.

A perfect timing Stella, bravo the plane a little over the clouds works fantastic, and the other white lines in the sky with the superb lightness make the image stunning.

Hello Stella,

I love it! I had just logged onto TE for a minute, when the photo came in. Absolutely fantastic catch with a dominatnt dark cloud in the lower right, and the plane cupped by the clouds the clouds. In modern life we've fallen into the habit of regard planes and flights as every day clichés, but when you make wondrous of the commonplace, it becomes a work of art.

As soon as I can open some space among my favorites, this will be elevated there. This evening I fly to Buffalo, to give three talks at a university not far from Niagara Falls. Tuesday I may have a chance to shoot a couple of photos of the falls.

A lovely shot Stella.Initially it was your title which made me have a closer look.The composition is excellent,the dark cloud is in just the right place.The other clouds present some lovely colour.And the jet trails add further interest, just a great shot, glad you persevered.

Hi Stella,
John Denver did a very fine song with this title and now you´ve made a very fine photo with the same title. Beautiful colours in this picture and a very fine composition. You know what happened to the Wright Brothers after their initial flight; one minute after landing their luggage had disappeared!

Hi Stella,
Impressive clouds. And that plane gives special feeling of leaving the place. Good framing.
But oversharpening makes the appearance rather grainy especially on the edges of the aircraft and the dark cloud. I wonder if it's due to postprocessing or did it come out of camera like that. I had Konica once and it wasn't particularly good on such.

The sky's colours are amazing.
Very good the timing, you caught the airplane one second before it comes into the black cloud, thing that makes the situation a little bit frightening.

Les couleurs sont magnifiques, cela donne une image avec un très beau graphisme. Le sharpening est peut-être un peu trop important (cela se remarque sur l'avion) mais c'est très vite corrigé. Cordialement,

very nice, as Kari said, i thing that the post-processing can be better.
But i like a lot the construction of your composition. the place for the plane is top. the variation of the colours of the sunset are gorgeous.
