Siren In The Sky Photo

Photographer’s Note

It seemed to me that there was a Siren in the sky that day, so I took a couple of pictures; this is one of them.

The Sirens.
These nymphs had the power of charming by their song all who heard them, so that mariners were impelled to cast themselves into the sea to destruction. Ulysses was directed by Circe to stop the ears of his seamen with wax, so that they should not hear the strain; to have himself bound to the mast, and to enjoin his people, whatever he might say or do, by no means to release him till they should have passed the Sirens' island. Ulysses obeyed these directions. As they approached the Sirens' island, the sea was calm, and over the waters came notes of music so ravishing and attractive that Ulysses struggled to get loose and, by cries and signs to his people, begged to be released; but they, obedient to his previous orders, sprang forward and bound him still faster. They held on their course, and the music grew fainter till it ceased to be heard, when with joy Ulysses gave his companions the signal to unseal their ears; and they relieved him from his bonds.
It is said that one of the Sirens, Parthenope, in grief at the escape of Ulysses drowned herself. Her body was cast up on the Italian shore where now stands the city of Naples, in early times called by the Siren's name.

Hello Stella,

Bay of Naples, Sorrento, Capri and the Amalfi Coast (especially my favorite, Positano) by their beauty could easily seduce me into steer the Crystal Serenity onto the rocks. It is a good thing that much cooler Norwegian sailors will be steering the ship. (I'll be there on July 12-13). I love this photo, and I can see the "siren" in the clouds. (Of course, I'm listening to Beethoven's Emperor concerto now, and the combination with your photo makes me a hazzard on the seas.)

i like these warm sunset colours in the cloud.Really they have a shape which looks like a women body.An interesting composition with the sea as foreground.Informative your note.

gran bella intuizione il tuo titolo, la nube al tramonto sembra davvero il corpo di una sirena. Anche lo scatto è ben eseguito dando molto spazio al cielo.

You are right : The sirens were singing the day you took the photo !
The golden and almost wine red clouds are extremely beautiful on the clear blue background !
One can even see the beautiful reflections in the water .
A photo with a lot of irresistible atmosphere !
