Agricultural center of the Abruzzi Apennine (1684 inhab.) Stands on a pleasant hill that rises on the left bank of the river Vibrata northeast of Teramo, which is 30 Km. Approximately. The name of the town derives from the name of the fertility goddess Turan and truly reflects the hard work and dynamism of Toranesi, while the word "New" was added in 1864 following a royal decree of Vittorio Emanuele II. In the Middle Ages it was certainly a strong castle situated on the border between the Papal States and the Kingdom of Naples. In 1496, during the so-called "war of plaster" of Charles VIII was razed to the ground, but thanks to the diligence and ingenuity of its inhabitants rebuilt "better than ere." Located on a hill, 241 meters above sea level, offers one of the most charming and picturesque landscapes of the province, it is surrounded by valleys and hills dotted with charming farmhouses and lush vineyards. It is known for the cultivation of grapes and the production of wine, famous since ancient times so that, according to Pliny, Hannibal, a veteran of the Battle of Lake Trasimeno, used it to cure his sick horses of scabies. The production of wine (DOC Montepulciano, Trebbiano DOC,,. Controguerra DOC and DOCG hills Teramane) is so important, that Torano Nuovo was called the "Capital of the Montepulciano d'Abruzzo". The extensive menu of local products is complemented by Toranesi sausages and hams of the five seasons from spelled, from cheese and honey. For its typical food and wine is certainly worth the title of "country of taste."
