Santo Stefano di Sessanio, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, is a town of only 120 inhabitants in the province of L'Aquila in the Abruzzo region. It is also part of the Mountain Community Campo Imperatore-this plain and the National Park of Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga. It comes from Sextantio, a small Roman settlement located near the modern town, according to other dates back to the Roman village of S. Marco, the most important plateau Aquila. The first documented on the territory of Santo Stefano occur in 760, with the donation of the Lombard king Desiderius donated to the monastery of St. Vincenzo al Volturno.
In 1308 we have the first news of the existence of the fortified village of Santo Stefano di Sessanio, part of the Barony of Carapelle Calvisio. In 1474, under the Aragonese, we are seeing a strong development of pastoralism and transhumance.
From 1579 to 1743 it is possession of the Medici family of Florence.

I like this perspective through the darkened archway toward the people in the sunlight beyond. The exposure is well managed and the detail excellent. I like also the patterns to be observed in the cobblestones. An image pleasant to view with a nice atmosphere to it.

You composed this very nicely by using the little wooden construction as a foreground, filling the empty space very cleverly. The finest part is of course the lively little group of people perfectly captured in the sunny area just beyond the beautiful medieval vault. This is a fine example of how interesting architecture looks better when complemented by people, and how people get more interesting in fine surroundings.

Ciao e buona serata

Hello dear Silvio,
Very nice capture with strong backlight.
Amazing the graphism created by the pavement of cobble Stones. I miss them so much. The asphalt is not a perfect substitude. Specially in old towns.

A very beautiful succession of arches, which gives a beautiful perspective to this original road, which begins with the sight of this pavement tiles, which gives a magnificent graphic to the composition.
The presence of people give vital touch to the image.
Good management of light and shadows, sharpness is also optimal.
I wish you a good week.

Excellent fg shadow detail which also still reveals the textural nuances of the individual stones in the pavement. The bg arch makes a fine focal point. The people in the sunlight animate the scene. The minimalist colour works well here. Tfs!

I like his photo because of the contrast between a dark tunnel and a very light mouth of this tunnel. Superb exposition. It's a very difficult and this shot (not only this one of course) is evidence of your skills!
have a nice week!

Absolutely fantastic shot and the ancient feel evoked out of this effective crop full of brilliant details, natural stone colours, shades of light and shadows. Great composition and spot on shooting angle, its low view point nicely sweeps thru the cool covered alley way to the bright side on the far end. Absolutely smashing of a fascinating place and a beautiful part of the world with the figures give the sense scale size. Congrats, TFS

It looks as you had waited fro the family to get to the lightened area - well premeditated.
Good depth down the alley, beautiful old arches covered.
Exquisite clarity and superb light management.
