Photographer's Note

Campo Imperatore is a plateau, among the largest in Italy, glacial and karst-alluvial, located at about 1800m above sea level in the province of L'Aquila in the heart of the Gran Sasso of Italy and in the Park national Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga.
The territory is almost completely bare of vegetation for both the elevation is high enoughf or the work of clearingt he past centuries.
The plateau isf amous in the history of Italy for being the last prison of Benito Mussolini in 1943 before being released by the Germans.

It has an astronomical observatory built between 1948and 1955equipped with a telescope of more than one meter in diameter.
