The dome of Chieti (Saint Giustino)
Saint Giustino is the constructed cathedral, is said, in the point in which a temple existed dedicated to Ercole. Before having from Pipino it was dedicated to Saint Tommaso, restored in the 840 from Teodorico bishop. In cripta, around per year thousands, sheltered the teatini as a result of the arrival of the saraceni. Attone bishop consecrated the church to Saint Giustino placing to you the body of the Saint in 1432.
In a 1770 violent one earthquake it destroyed it nearly completely and it was rebuilt on the own ruins having followed a design of Carlo Piazzoli from Milano. The facade and the portale are relatively recent, going back works to 1936.
The basilica is formed from one nave them and from two lateral ones; has nine altars, a altar frontal in marble carved with scenes of the life of Saint Giustino and San Tommaso, a gilded silver goblet of veneziana school, of which one it belonged to Giovanni Borgia, grandson of Alessandro VI and was donated to the Cathedral from Guido de’ Medici.
