Angels of the Sea - Hook lighthouse

Hook Lighthouse is a unique example of an almost intact medieval lighthouse. It dates from the early 13th century and was a major feat at the time of its construction.

Purpose built as a lighthouse, it has served sailors and shipping for 800 years, apart from a short closure during the 17th century. It is thought to be one of the oldest operational lighthouses in the world. When the Tower of Hook became fully automated in 1996 and no longer needed resident keepers, it was decided to celebrate its uniqueness by opening it to the public.

Hi Stephen,

I like this dark sky, those clouds announcing a storm. Their color contrasts with the white lighthouse on the right.
The foreground is very clear, very "sharp".

Stephane

Wonderful photo. Great POV and use of your equipment to capture the flowing water and lighting. I'm curious to know if there was any post-shot processing done to help diffuse the contrast and highlight the colors or lighting in the clouds. Either way, great photo!

You captured fantastic light in a really good composition. I am impressed by the details and colours of your photo
really good one. TFS. Carme.

That's it! I have to go and see this lighthouse by myself.

It is a great shot of course.
I wonder why the lighthouse looks so dirty. Usually in the low light pictures everything looks better and cleaner than in the reality (that is why I like them), unless it was may be covered with a ND filter?

Hi Stephen, what can i say about a perfect shot other than it is perfect, i like every element thin photo include and every technique was used. very well done.
Sam.

Hi Stephen,
well I told you I love your gallery and it really inspires me, this is a great piece of photography work, simply awesome and I would love to have this one in my gallery! Would be interesting to know your exif data, but the longer exposure gave you a nicely blurred water, the sky is awesome and the quality superb. Great POV, you are really a world class landscape photographer, I can learn a lot from you!

Take care
Mark

Hi Stephen,
Waow it's a fabulous shot, very well composed between lighthouse in background and rock and dramatic wave in foreground. Long exposition time give dynamic action to the sea on the orck. Colors are very beautifull. Like it a lot. A good presentation for that lighthouse! :-)
Best regards,
Olivier

Great picture! A pleasure to look upon! Thanks for sharing.

Hi Stephen,
Yet another brilliant shot from you! I really like the mood of this pic... Rough seas, threatening sky, darkness and the all important lighthouse to guide sailors to safety. Excellent compo, perfect shutter and really great how the colours are so natural! Fantastic foreground!
Very well done!
Regards,
Costa.

Hi Steve,
I'm very busy at work right know but try to catch up during the weekends and scroll fast through the pages hunting for some good ones ;-)
I like this one better than the other one with the lighthouse. This looks much more natureal and your crop and framing is near to be perfect. I love those rocks in front and the softness of the water that is floating over it. That sky (thanks to the Lee) is great comparing the the lower part of the image. Very well exposed and great pp treatment to bring out all the details...great piece of work..!!!
Have a great weekend, Henk
