Photographer's Note

This is the chapel of St. Finbarr (Barra in Irish) founder, and first Bishop of Cork, Finbarr is widely believed to have lived at an island hermitage at Gougane Barra. This little chapel stands on an island surrounded by the lake Lough Allua, (whose old name is Loch Irse) & the island is linked to the mainland by a causeway.
St Finbarr's was built at the end of the nineteenth century, in his memory.
