Photographer’s Note

Glenveagh (Gleann Bheatha in irish, which means "glen of life") National Park is the biggest national park in Ireland, covering about 11,000 hectares of hillside above Glenveagh Castle on the shore of Lough Veagh, in heart of Donegal. The estate was established by a rich american, John Adair, who built the castle here in 1870. A very infamous man since he evicted hundreds of his tenants so they would not spoil his view on the landscape ! The entry of the park stands on the road from Gweedore to Letterkenny. From the visitors centre at the entry, a bus drives you to the castle, then you have many footpaths in the park. The one I took goes along Lough Veagh then up to the valley, to the frontier of the park. If you start walking in the morning, you have the valley for yourself and you can see these wonderful reflections in Lough Veagh. A 4 hours return walk, an easy one, a great moment !
