[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Shot from a recent trip to Ireland. My brother showed me this wonderfull area around Shankill River in Co. Wicklow, with this natural whirpool. We spent whole morning covering area of just few metres.

The light was just perfect for this type of photography, with no direct sun, just difused light. I spent good while experimenting with different shutter speeds. I opted for 1 second as it was best speed to record motion in the water, yet still keep much needed details in it. Exposure a bit longer and the water would become white overexposed mess.

I used polariser to remove some of the glare on the water, as it helped to isolate the circle of moving water, and also to boost the colors. Rain the previous night helped to keep the stream with enough water and boost the green hues of surrounding moss.

Technical details:
Camera: Nikon D200
Lens: Tokina 12-24mm F4 ATX-Pro set at 12mm
ISO: 100
Shutter Speed: 1s
Aperture: F16
Other: tripod, circular polariser, cable release, mirror lock up, spirit level.
Post processing: processed in Nikon Capture NX, cropped.

Hello!
Nice effect

Raphaël

Hi Juraj

Nice effect of the swirl. As you say the exposure of the whites are excellent, good detail in the highlights. Good note to say how you achieved this paticular image.

Jim

Hello Juraj

a very serene, peaceful image where your mastership of the art and technique play a major role.

Congratulations

Emmanuel

Hi Juraj,
I too love situations like this so I can imagine how much fun you must have had experimenting here! The ring of the whirlpool makes a splendid subject, contrasting nicely with the small waterfall behind it. I think the vertical format works well, though I wonder whether it might have made a stronger composition if you had left out the foreground rock and gone straight for the circle of water? Just a thought.
Good colour saturation - I like the peaty brown tone of the white water in particular.

Hi Juraj,
Technically everything seems excellent in the photo, with good compo and very nice interest in the swirling water in the foreground. The slow speed has created the movement in the water that you were after. Very well done.
Cheers Grant

Juraj,
Two fine river shots - this one and no.2 - of which I prefer this one simply because it is more unusual. You've effectively made the circular outline of froth your subject, and the surrounding beauty is but a backdrop to this little symbol.
Very nice.

Hej Juraj
The whole serie of of the sparkling Irish creek is very fine but This is my favorite. because it contains more of the surronding and has an interesting shape in the whirlpool.
