Photographer’s Note
The megalithic dolmen at Proleek, located in the legendary Cooley Peninsula, is one of the finest examples in Ireland, and is widely photographed and documented. Access to the dolmen is through the grounds of a hotel, and then across a golf course, but it is well worth a visit. Nearby is a wedge tomb, or gallery grave.
The Proleek dolmen, or portal tomb, consists of a chamber which faces towards the northwest. The giant roof stone, which measures 3.8m by 3.2m, is estimated to weigh about 30 tonnes or more, and is supported on two portal stones, each about 2.3 metres high. The archaeological term portal tomb is derived from the belief that the two large upright stones act as a portal or doorway into the burial chamber. It has been suggested the dolmen may once have been covered with a cairn of stones, but no evidence of this can be found. One of the support stones is buttressed by a modern stone and concrete support.
There are a number of smaller stones on the top of the roof stone. This is because there is a local folklore tale that says if you throw a stone up onto the roofstone and it stays up there, you will be married within a year!
Another legend about the site tells why the capstone is known as the "Giant's Load". Apparently, it was carried to this point by a giant, said to be a Scottish giant, called Parrah Boug MacShagean, who according to local stories is buried nearby.
Same place as last upload this time about 30 mins later. Tried a painting with light technique here. Took a few exposures and shone my torch on a some parts of the dolmen moving around so i wouldnt get exposed in the shot and blended them in PS.
Thanks for looking :)

Hello Gary,
These dolmens have been posted on Trek Earth rather frequently over the last few weeks. They are certainly interesting objects to photograph from different angles at alternate times of day. Signal-Womb has taken some good photos of these also. I like the beautiful wash of sky here combining the lilac/violet tones with the glint of the fingernail moon. The rocks themselves are sharp and well placed in the scene. Interesting background, with the leafless trees and reaching branches. I like that the grass is split by a line of tocks and taller grasses. Great work!

I agree with Bulent about the "finished" aspect, it's obvious that you have thought about all the little things to make the photo not simply pleasant to look at, but to create a captivating presentation - the frame, the note, everything just fits together the way it should, nothing to add and nothing to remove.
as to the shot - excellent, just like the one you posted before. with one detail that I absolutely love - the tiny Moon in the middle of the exploding clouds. such a tiny thing, but I find it makes a big difference, I like a lot how it faces the dolmen.
my compliments, Gary.
best,
Kristine

Excellent shot here. The sky looks amasing, streched out and with deep purples and blues. The colours are deep and well saturated.

Hello Gary,
I must admit, the really distinguish your work from the mere amateurs. The composition, perspective, colors and resolution are superb, as is the frame. There is a "finished" aspect to your work. The note also is highly informative. The emerald green of Ireland resonates in this photograph.
Warm regards,
Bulent

Hi Gary,
This one's great too - I kinda did a double take when I saw it though, thinking I had seen it before, then recognized the differences. Nice to see the moon in this one and the colors are spectacular. Awesome shot and TFS. Gerald

Excellent result for such a long exposure, and I'm really surprised by the quality of the colour. The sky looks fantastic too, and those streaks from the clouds add a wonderful texture to the sky. Beautiful work!
