Photographer’s Note
On the grounds of the worldwide headquarters of the Christian Brothers of Ireland, founded by Edmund Rice, in the heart of Ireland in the small town of Callan, in County Kilkenny, there stands this perfect example of a traditional Irish thatched cottage. I believe this may well be the house Edmund Rice grew up in, or possibly a replica thereof. We stopped here because an uncle of my wife's is a Christian Brother. Click here for an excellent rendition of modern stained glass windows taken at this very site.
This photo was taken on one of those sunny days on which you could just point and click at pretty much anything and digital autofocus took care of the rest. In retrospect I love the way the dark green of the grass contrasts the whitewashed facade of the cottage, its "coiffed" thatch and the strikingly bright blue of the sky. This is one of those one in a million shots of mine, well, one in a hundred, anyway...
No filters, tripod or flash. Just resized and uploaded. One shot. One cottage. No frills. Hope you like it.
