Photographer’s Note
Ballinskellig Bay the day after yesterday's Ballinskelligs Bay, and from the opposite site.
Here, near the village of Ballinskellig are the remains of an old abbey, of which the cemetery is still used. It is said to be the abbey of the monks who retreated from the Skellig Islands in the thirteenth century. Some of the stones were very, very old and almost nothing was left.
This is an area of Ireland where still a lot of people speak Gaelic, and in summer it is full of students and schoolchildren learning Gaelic.
The bay was stunning again, and the light perfect for these two white gravestones. I don't have any pictures of the front of the stones, because the sea was so beautiful as a background.
On the other side of the bay lies Waterville, of which I might post a picture later.
Ran auto-levels, cropped, and added a small frame.

Great shot, Rinie, I like your Irland shots very much. THe sea is very well captured with amazing colors. The stones are overexposed a little bit, but still, a great center for your composition, and the texture of the left one is very well shown. Very nice compo.

Probably difficult lightning here but the gravestone in the middle is overxposed, pure white with no definition. The rest of the scene is well exposed. The sea looks a little strange, well out of focus but still with strange sharp and hard contrst between the white crests of the waves and the rest of the sea, a little blur might be good here. Still an impressive photo.

I like your composition. Despite of a sad theme, they do not give rise long. Last stop of a life at the sea... It is beautiful. An excellent shot, it is good seen

You captured a heavy and bit spooky atmosphere here, Rinie. This has to do with the strong contrast (as a whole and in the sea), the combination of the old and and new stones and the colour of the light. Your compo uses these elements very well.
The right stone indeed is a bit overexposed, but this adds nicely to the effect.
Very fine work!

A heavy atmosphere in which you perfectly managed the importance of the white.
Great shot, Rinie, you didn't lost your time in Ireland !

Beautiful composition of contrasting colours and textures, Rinie! I like the depth in it and the dark layers of sky and sea at background. Emanates such a special mood and feelings. Well done!

Oh - what an amazing light you got on this fine capture :-) The dark sky and blue sea and excellent background for those fine white gravestones. I would say the place looks messy but the flowers in front add some extra to this fine photo - thanks for sharing Rinie - deserves a lot of points - ill be back.

Ik heb geen punten meer, maar ik moet je wel meteen even zeggen, dat dit weer echt Ierland is, zeg! Prachtig keltisch kruis in the middle, heerlijke donkere kleuren en zo mooi aan zee, great Rinie !

The white tomb and marker is a rich contrast to the gloomy sky. It is a good shot...simple yet powerful.

This is a beautiful contrast with the bright white stones and the dark sky and powerful sea. Also with all the other stones that are in not so pristine of a condition. Very nicely composed. It's a stunning view for a cemetery. Has that edge of the world look and endless horizons for the deceased. Very nicely done.

Impressive picture. Spooky as it can be in Ireland with such lighting. Despite the difficult lighting you captured the ambience very, very well Rinie. Awesome contrast between the gravestones and the background. Heavy heaven and beautiful sea colour in a very good composition.

Hello Rinie, before reading your note, the first thing that I capture my attention was the fact that your you took the picture from the back perspective. I have taken some pictures of a cemetery near where I live, and I made it in the same way, in my case, the reason is that I don't still have the audacity to take the pictures of the front gravestones. In your picture the landscape of the sea is beautiful, excellent reason to take the picture for the later part, this gives him super a touch special of absolute peace. Saludos Cordiales. *Ninfa Urania*

Hi Rinie
Die see is pragtig. Die kontras tussen die seeblou en die wit grafstene is skitterend. Jy moes miskien 'n bietjie meer lig gegee het, tot 1 stop meer, om meer tekstuur in die regter grafsten te kon kry.

Hi Rinie. This si a highly dramatic and moody photo. Excellent contrasts in color, with the dark sky and those white Celtic crosses. Inspirational use of light. My compliments. Regards, klaudio
