Portmagee is a small fishing village beside the Atlantic ocean, and near to the 'Ring of Kerry', which is a famous route in Iveragh Penninsula, Co. Kerry. Often very busy, but Portmagee isn't bothered by this. It's on the Ballinskellig ring, which is less visited than the ring of Kerry, and no buses are allowed.

Portmagee or Magee's Port, as it was known, is named after one of the most notorious smugglers of the 18th Century, a Captain Theobald Magee.

The bridge in the back ground leads to Valentia island, which is Europe's most western part. From there on there's nothing but water until you reach Newfoundland.

I was surprised to see, that fisherman really go out on the ocean in these small wooden boats.

Tech: cropped, unsharp mask, and a frame added.

I like your composition, the colorful boats and the uniform colors of the coastline visible in the background.

Nice capture of these two boats whose colours complement each other very well. I like the tight framing ;-)

Nice frontal & tightly composed shot, Rinie. Good colours and sharpness too and the sky adds dramatism to the scene. These ships really look weather beaten. The crews must have loads of guts to sail them on the ocean.
Nicely photographed Rinie, thanx for sharinh.

Good photo, nice captured and great colors. I don't like on that kind of ships in a storm. I think I will sea-sick.

Wow, a great add for Ireland, this is a place that I have to add to my long "next trip" list. Wonderful colors and a great tight crop. Well done. Rinie, excellent shot.

nice photo rinie... How are you? i have always be surprised too that people would go out to the ocean on such small shells... nice vivid colors;-)

Very nice colors and composition. I like the emphasis on these boats. They really are prominent with your point of view and the perspective created. I really like the sky, too. A 'vanilla sky'. And it's quite impressive they go out on the mighty North Atlantic in these little, very worn looking, boats. It still seems a bit on the soft side, though. Especially the boats. Very ncely photographed.

Wow! Gorgeous composition, Rinie! :-))
The two boats are a lovely pair with fine details and fantastic deep and vibrant colours. The sky with these mixed clouds is just great background, together with the blue water. Light is very good too. Very good job indeed - thank you for sharing! ;-))

Two different boat two different color. The boat are very good subject and the photo you did work very nice. I like how close we are to them. Good work!

A really interesting framing, likes the position of the boats and the colors very good, a photo rich person in details.

Very good photo! I Love wooden fishing boats. It was my bread and butter 40 years ago. See my Boat reflections on Webshots, community album under " naturepainter" You captured the rugged spirit of those working boats. Yes it will remain a memento to a disappearing way of life. The design of boats of some 65 ft spread from North Sea to north east America with small local adaptations.I may if you dont protest use the composition for a future painting.jehe
