This is one of Ireland's most spectacular dolmens in Co Donegal. Since it is not well-known, a visit to the Kilclooney dolmen is very peaceful and without the annoyance of the tour bus crowds that sometimes detract from visits to the more famous megalithic sites around the Ireland like the Burren.

Another great shot of this megalith! I like the low angle you took, which allows the rocks to be seen against the sky - and what a sky! I'm a big fan of sky shots, so I really like this one, although I looked back in your portfolio and found a great black & white version too (and I left a critique on that as well). Excellent work!
berek (40015) 2006-07-25 16:43

Ouchhhhh !!!! What a shot... Stephen...
It's simply amazing.
I really love it.
Direct to my favorites...
The colors are so nice, so soft...
Have you made an HDR or DRI treatment as it seems that there is an halo around the dolmen ?
richtersl (3546) 2006-07-25 17:17
Great colors! The angle at which you took this nicely accentuates the size of those dolmens.
balatrek (7455) 2006-07-25 17:26
Beautiful imagen and fantastic colours, interesting point of view and soft textures, congratulations for this great work.

What I don't like is sunrises and sunsets with the lightsource (the sun) depicted.
Here you are using 'the magic time' or whatever you call it to photograph this dolmen. I like it.
jmdias (56593) 2006-07-25 19:01
Dolmens are ever interesting, if we think how many centuries they "lived", how many things crossed their existences, people who build them.. This one has a very nice shape and you got a fantastic POV. Congratulations

Now a days I keep my self away from landscape & nature. But Really I ilke this one..
A sort of loanlyness created. Your Point of View has reallt made this shot in nice graphical presentation. Beautiful sky captured. Sort of touching the minimum composiotion.
guaranine (0) 2006-07-25 19:59
nicely done. i actually visited this one while in ireland on a tour, but didn't get any shots due to heavy rain that day.
not sure about the glow coming from behind the rock, i'd like it blended out further or burned in so its not so bright. just looks radioactive with the glow around it to me. otherwise well done, another beautiful ireland image from your collection.

craiggc (2509) 2006-07-26 4:36
Excellent shot Stephen. Your composition teaches me so much, but go on, admit it - that stone was never there on the top when you arrived - you placed it there to make create the shot ;-)
Excellent sky, love the backdrop of the rolling hills and the line of trees, the diffused lighting in the foreground grass.
All in all a lovely composition

Hi Stephen, this is truly an amazing shot, of course I like your low POV permitting to capture this dolmen in all its majesty under a fantastic sky, but I also like the natural colours very much. Good light, creates a 3D effect.
tomji (31) 2006-07-26 6:00
Looks like... a 3D animation object.
t0mmm1 (5440) 2006-07-26 6:38

Absolutely fantastic shot Stephen!
Your images are really inspirational and make me go out and shoot more landscapes!
Lovely colours and tones of this sunset in Donegal. Good compo, contrast and just enough time for a complete viewing pleasure!
I enjoy it a lot and thanks for sharing!
arturo (31) 2006-07-30 16:52
almost a classical, low point of view to show us this work of unknown giants...the place you show us creates a soft, peaceful and almost mystical mood...and yet these megaliths are present in many distant places of the world we live in...i think that the less we know about the way our ancestors dwelled the more we think about it in terms of "mystical"...the sky add the so called touch...although i think i see some aeroplane traces on it...cheers, arturo

askiblair (116) 2006-08-03 14:43
I love this photo! The direction of the the light (from the background, to the foreground) and the point of view are both FABULOUS! Also, this photo is so incredibly sharp, it looks like it could be in a photography magazine, or in an art gallery!
Aliine (2663) 2010-05-18 13:04
The light and the sky are really nice.
A lovely shot.
