Glendalough, situated in picturesque County Wicklow, was made famous by Saint Kevin who came to the area in the sixth century. He was looking for a place of solitude and having found it, remained and lived a rather hermitic life. He founded his monastery here which attracted thousands of people who were intrigued by St. Kevin's simple and scholarly ways.
The most famous of all the landmarks in the area, however, is the Round Tower which stands 110 feet above the ground. It was built almost 1000 years ago by the monks of St. Kevin's monastery. The tower was originally built as a bell tower and a place of refuge when the monastery was attacked.

I like the composition with the contrast of the tombstones against the very green grass, the tower against the pink sky and the touch of colour with the pretty purple flowers.

Hello, Stephen. This is a good picture of the famosu Glendalough tower. It stands well out against the skty. The foreground with the tomb stones, the different green hues and the purple flowers is very good. Well done.

A lovely image Stephen. I love the strange purple sky, somehow appropriate for a cemetery. Well seen, TFS!

What a beautiful way to capture such an impressive historic place. The soft, warm light and colors are wonderful and make the place look mystical. Great job.

great photo of the beautiful place. Non-typical, because without the people. Round tower looks very very good in your version.

Lovely shot Stephen, good sharpness, composition and exposure levels, not easy due to the bright sky. The clouds look a little noisy though. Have you ever tried Neat Image to reduce noise?
I like the pinkish tone in the sky. Was this created using a filter or was it natural light?
Irish round towers are fascinating buildings. The fact that they have lasted around 1000 years is testimony to their solid design.
Took the liberty of adding this fine shot to the "Irish Round Towers" theme.
