Rugged Irish Coast, a photo from Mayo, North

Photographer's Note

Typical Irish coastal scenery under typical Irish weather, a mix of heavy cloud cover and occasional sunny break, and plenty of wind. Taken late afternoon after a cold rainstorm. There are even a few sheep in the picture that got zapped by NeatImage into tiny white imperfections. This is the south coast of Achill Island along a narrow scenic road that had a lot more sheep than cars. About the island:

Achill Island (Acaill; Oileán Acla) in County Mayo is the largest island off Ireland, and is situated off the west coast. It has a population of 2700. Its area is 57 square miles (146 square kilometres). Achill is attached to the mainland by Michael Davitt Bridge, between the villages of Achill Sound and Polranny, so it is possible to drive onto the island. This is a swing bridge which allows the passage of small boats. A bridge was first completed here in 1886, and replaced by the current structure after World War II. Other centres of population include the villages of Keel, Dooagh, Dooega and Dugort. The island's football pitch and two secondary schools are on the mainland at Polranny. Early settlements are believed to have been established on Achill around 3000 BCE. A paddle dating from this period was found at the crannog near Dookinella. The island is 87 per cent peat bog.

I am impressed by the bright green although I know it's Eire.
I like the sunlight in the little house.

This typical scene of Ireland is nicely captured. The greens are vivid and create my Irish fantasy come true. I hope the sheep don't mind being zapped out of such a beautiful scene ;)

Great moody shot with spectacular bright colours of the green and the threatening gray of the sky... Ireland like we tend to imaginate, it makes me dream! :o)

I've always heard especially nice appreciations about County Mayo. I will certainly set it on our "Dream travellist"... Thank you for the notes too.

Encore un joyau irlandais.
J'aimerais tant obtenir de tels ciels, mais mon filtre polarisant ne me donne pas satisfaction.
Que ce soient la mer, le cil où les prairies, de même que les rochers, tout est parfaitment exposé, contrasté , net et coloré.
J'adore.

It may be a typical Irish coastal scenery under typical Irish weather, but it definitely isn't a typical picture of this landscape. It's very extraordinary first class picture. Excellent sharpness, colours, depth and light. Impressive POV from the edge of a cliff. Very well done!

Typical Ireland Mr.Captain.. Irish green, a closed wheather (something i hate) and wild, rugged shores.. You captured them all so well,,

A superb shot and a great documentary note. One more time, the light and colors are very nice (and so typically Irish, in this case !). I think such kind of picture do more for tourism in Eire than every tourism office !

This scenery is really wonderfull. I have never been in this beautiful country but one day for sure i will travel to Ireland too.
