Living in Namibia I miss European trees and woodland. This shot is a personal favourite. Walking down to Muckross Abbey in the Killarney National Park we passed through a small stand of Beech trees. The day was overcast and damp and the leaf litter had a wonderful earthy smell. Simple I know but the picture reminds me of one of the things I miss from home.
The Franciscan friary of Irrelagh, now known as Muckross Abbey was founded for the Observatine Franciscans about 1448 by Daniel McCarthy Mor. The friars remained in occupation at Muckross at least intermittently and despite the dissolution of the monasteries until Cromwellian times. The present well-preserved ruins include a church with a wide, square tower and fine windows, and a vaulted cloister with an arcade of arches around a square courtyard. In the middle of the courtyard grows an ancient yew tree, said traditionally to be as old as the Abbey. Muckross Abbey was the burial place of local chieftains, and in the 17th and 18th centuries, the three Gaelic poets, Geoffrey O’Donoghue, Aodhagan O’Rathaille and Eoghan Rua O’Suilleabhain. The graveyard in the grounds surrounding the Abbey is still in use with a number of burials there each year.

Nice view of this beech forest. I like such forests with only carpet of dead leaves and no shrubs. Warsaw is out of range of beeches. Wonderful place, I would like to make a walk there even if I do not live on the desert :). marvelous colours.
HAve a nice weekend

sembra di sentire il profumo della natura, una natura ancora molto viva, come sa offrire l'Irlanda.
Bello scatto e bella atmosfera, molto rilassante e pacifica.

This is indeed a very pleasant scene and you have captured it beautifully. I like the point of view with the path coming in from bottom left and the contrasts in light and tone that you have managed to handle very well indeed. Excellent colours and clarity. Have a pleasant weekend.

I do enjoy the soft light and muted colours beneath the trees, with the track leading nicely to the lighter field beyond it`s got a very nice feeling of depth and tranquillity.
Isn`t it strange the things that we country dwellers take for granted?
Kindest regards Les.

the verdant greens here almost hurt your eyes, who could resist a stroll in this glorious woodland. Can understand why you miss places like this. Pure magic!
Enjoy the weekend - B.

Le regard suit naturellement le petit sentier dans l'image et veut aller toujours plus loin, suivre la clôture et observer ce qui se passe sous cette couverture de verdure.

Lovely place to have a walk. Impressive trees and attractive fresh green colors. Well taken, have a fine weekend.

This is really very nice. I can understand that ypu like it. There's a lovely balance of brown and green and excellent contrasts and I like how gradually more and more light is seeping through the trees as I look from left to right. The path creates a nice diagonal between the trees and the fence forms another one.

Hi Rosemary, very good picture of this beautiful and interesting forest, very well composed and captured in this interesting image with good sharpness, depth, light and color. Very good and interesting job well done, congratulations my friend. Thanks for sharing this beautiful work.
Good afternoon and happy Sunday.
Warm greetings from southern Spain.

I love woods as well and they can be very charming at every time of the year. In you picture summer gets mixed with autumn already and that makes the scene quite special. The lush green leaves on the branches contrast with the brown and yellow ones on the ground.
Good POV and pretty composition with the path leading an eye and the fence adding some interest on the right side.
Thanks for sharing

I see what you mean about this place, the rich earthy natural colors are superb and I can almost smell the earth from looking at the picture! A really nice composition too, the path leads the eye wonderfully into the scene and between these trees, allowing me to feel like I am there inside the scene. Beautiful combination of light across the whole image too.
Though I must admit, the rain is starting to annoy me. I visited three castles today, and it rained heavily every single time I stopped. Oh well, I guess that's why we have the option for black and white :) I was lucky to get a ten minute break in the clouds at Birr castle, so not a complete wash out, so to speak!
Thanks as always, and best wishes from the soggy place.

The way you have captured light on this one is just fabulous. Green foliage shows almost no sky, and backlight gives strong contrasts and sharp patterns of so many green tones. And even shady trunks have enough light to show plenty of details.

Wow! What a fantastic place you have visited and photographed! The forest looks extremely attractive and beautiful here and I am sure it was a pleasure to see it. Perfectly taken image as always. TFS.

I know exactly how you felt in this wood. Way back when I was working in Africa or Israel it was exactly this, the smell of wet leaves on a forest floor that I missed most about from home.
Your picture of a lush green forest, bathed in a warm sunlight couldn't bring forth that feeling better.
have a great sunday

the Park looks so beautiful and tranquil at the same time.Certainly must be a pleasure to enjoy such magnificent nature and its peaceful atmosphere.
Simple, but here we don´t need any other "extras",which would only distracted us from enjoying the nature.
Nice framing and delightful and strong contrasting colors.
Have a nice sunday

I can understand that you miss wonderful places like this, when you are in Namibia. This is without a doubt a lovely place, an ideal place for a picnic or just for long strolls as you did. The light here is pleasant but also a peaceful atmosphere is present. Tfs!
Have a nice evening/

I love the huge amount of rustic tones, the leaves and the lean to the huge trees as they drop their branches makes for a very interesting image, superb detail to the textures.
A splendid POV with in this presentation. Marvelous lighting and a good composition with this crop.

I thoroughly understand your desire for trees and greenery, I know I would be devastated to be deprived of them, they are such an integral part of everyday life.
This is a very tranquil moment, when the beauty of the tall trees and their associated greenery is celebrated. You have used the pathway most effectively, guiding from the bottom l/h corner, under the natural archway to meet the new focus of the fence. The journey is totally unhurried, so that the shape of the trees, the scattering of leaves and many green hues can all be seen and appreciated.
My warm regards,

I have one serious complaint about this photo. I lived in Cork for two years and been a frequent guest in Killarney. The town is actually to my knowledge the central town of County Kerry so definitely not County Cork :) (BTW you can still change that).
Except for that the photo is perfect! I like very much the atmosphere of dense forest which is actually in Ireland quite rare as they don't have many trees on the island. The trees silhouettes look fantastic set against the vivid green background and the road adds a nice motif as well.
jcpix (13930) 2014-03-25 20:02
I'm sure the difference in climates/landscapes is quite stark. I always forget how much green everywhere else seems to be once I leave the Southwest U.S. :) This setting has an innate and simplistic beauty, I can understand the attraction. It appears very much like many areas in Central Park, and feels like a million miles away from the big city life. I was drawn towards this picture because of the dual color scheme, red's & green's...a harmonious combination. Lovely soft light to accent the details, and I like the triangle formed from the foreground which points the way through, and into the distance. I'm ready for a walk now! Have a great new day. All the best.
clic (17417) 2014-04-01 16:15
Quite a verdant scenery indeed deprived of modern artifact for an intense impression of serenity and, most important, the bad wolf of the 'Little Red Riding Hood' tale doesn't seem to prowl around!
macjake (69815) 2014-04-06 23:54
these are the type of photos and scenes that my girlfriend Tosca enjoys capturing.
its so attractive how the dark tree trunks stand out among the brightly lit green leaves and the rustic colors on the ground. the twisted shapes of the trunks make it a bit more interesting too.
see you around

Hello dear Rosemary
A clean but beautiful scene with contrasting deep colours enriched in the shade. The path leads us well into the picture, and the lush green (thanks to ample rain I would believe) contrasts well with the brown tones. The silhouetted and semi-silhouetted trunks offer good graphic effect. Beautifully done!
delpeoples (58836) 2014-04-09 19:14
Gidday dear Rosemary
I know this is nit-picking, but isn't Killarney in County Kerry, not County Cork?
Nit-picking officially over as the photo itself is immaculate. I love that play of light and shade, the fluorescent greens that I really only see in Ireland and parts of Britain. The little path leading off into who knows where creates that ethereal atmosphere that an Irish forest often evokes. I expect a wee fairy to jump out from behind a tree at any moment. Excellent light management, superb sharpness and you composed it beautifully. Nice work.

A beautiful place indeed! The colours are fantastic and it seems really peaceful, a great place for a walk.
