This is Eddie's Boat, an old wreck on Maghercloher Beach in Bunbeg, County Donegal. You might recognise the boat from the film clip of the song Once In A Lifetime, sung by Bono and Clannad.
In my Workshop is some Irish brown scone bread which I made this evening. It is missing some jam, and Noel's photo of the jam ladies made me think to post it.
You can listen the song here Once In A Lifetime

The scone bread looks good enough to eat:-) But, I like this photo better. A fine composition with lovely warm light and colours. Love the reflections and the ripple patterns in the sand. Have a good week.

POV chosen show the wreck at it's grandeur, if can be said about. Like the bread in the WS, some similarities , but one would need to have an imagination to compare. Anyway, I like both photos, I do not think the boat is from the Vikings era - as I see iron frame, whicjh they did not have, back in their time.
Good details and light managed.

Nice warm light, well reflected by the remaining woods of the lost boat. A good photo subject, at the right time of the day.

I find it amazing sometimes how beautiful these wrecked boats are, and I am glad that they leave them on the beaches for us photographers to take advantage of. The texture of this boat is very beautiful,, and enchanced in a really wonderful way by the soft golden light falling across it. I see you got a blue sky for this too, good timing to snap this on the same day that we had Summer that year :)
As for the workshop, congtats on making me unbelievably hungry. Nice enough that the bread looks beautiful, but the half melted butter on top, nom nom nom. Believe it or not, you have no jam, where I have a fresh pot of jam in the fridge but no bread. If only we could figure out how to email jam, the world would be a much better place.
This is a hint to the scientists and technology people, stop working on Facebook, and show us how to email jam!!!
Have a great day :)

Hello Lisa ,
A beautiful old wreck , taken from an excellent angle of view . the light was not so easy to manage , with this back light . I like especially the loittle reflection in the pond .

this old boat seems to have more of a life as a wreck than it did when it was sea-worthy. It has appeared in so many images on the web and TE. This shot is different because most people seem to take it at sunset/rise and this gives us a more detailed study and a nice golden glow. It looks so sad! But I do like it! Would love to be able to get a few shots of it too!
Have a fine week - Brian.

Ciao e buona giornata

Hello Lisa ,
Crikey, looks as if this was taken a while ago,I wonder if the wreck survives.
It was a nice idea to use the upright format to include those lovely patterns in the sand whilst the lovely light across the wreck works it`s magic,a most serene and agreeable photograph.
Those scones look yummy by the way.
Kindest thoughts Les.

So what.....now you're copying me?! Lol....haha
Stealing my subjects eh????
As you and some fellow europeans would say...this is a cracker of a shot! Not sure where that saying comes from!!
I've had a few te members ask me why did you come back from iceland with so many abandoned photos of planes boats cars and homes....well....take a look at your photo and theres your answer.
They make for great subjects. And great subjects make great photos.
In my opinion this is one of your all time best posted shots! No kidding. Going into my favs.
The boat looks very larege and that side light is crackin' lol

I like old ship wreck pictures, and this one is a very beautiful picture, due to the nice light and the very good composition.

Hello Lisa - The textures in this shot are fabulous and I feel as if I could run my hand across the old hull and feel every bump (and splinter). You captured the old beauty under very attractive light and the pool of water around the hull gives an extra 'lift' to the shot... nicely contrasty.
Recipe please for the Irish Brown Scone Bread... looks delicious.
Warm regards Rosemary

Hello Lisa, this photo here makes me think of the Noah's ark stories. The light on the left side of the boat is just amazing. The sand patterns look also very nice. A perfect blue sky completes the composition. Good take.
tyro (26142) 2013-04-15 9:35
Ciao cara Lisa,
Now. First things first. So, before I critique your wonderful picture of a boat, could you please send me your recipe for Irish scone bread - your workshop picture makes it look simply delicious with great knobs of butter on it - I'd love to try making some of that! In fact, it's probably so good that jam might spoil it - best to keep the jam (when you get some) for the cheap and tasteless supermarket bread.
But, to the boat. I always think that decaying wrecked boats like this look so incredibly sad - a work of art hewn and built from fine timbers by dedicated and hard working craftsmen, a craft that has then worked hard all its days fishing the seas and giving many years of faithful service - then rudely cast aside to rot in open view of the sea and all her companions.
I think you've caught some of that sadness in this picture too, the side of her hull beautifully illuminated by the low sun which models and sculpts all the textures of her decaying woodwork and her naked ribs stretching upwards to the sky.
Lovely textures in the sand too as well as fine reflectiuons in the pool of water around this wreck. Gorgeous colours, lovely light, perfect exposure and exquisite details and sharpness.

What a lovely boat you captured. Very well managed the composition, colors and details. Very well done.
tatadalou (7459) 2013-04-15 11:12
Amazing light management on this old boat. Great sharpness, too. These old boats stranded always something touching.

Ciao Cara Lisa,
Why do wrecks make such attractive shots!
Maybe it's because the skeleton gives the most interesting silhouettes!
This is made all the more interesting because it's in a pool, giving us an extra view of the underside. The boat has quite a sexy tilt and a 'come on, look at my bottom!'
Excellent textural details and a lovely, golden light.
Have a great day,
Silvio1953 (152947) 2013-04-15 12:30

Complimenti e grazie!
Tanti saluti e buona giornata,
Irresistibile la foto del workshop:)
carlo62 (54958) 2013-04-15 13:25

What a superb scene you have seen and photographed! Love the warm golden tones of the light which made the view extremely attractive and beautiful. The vertical format of your cropping fits here very well. Excellent work! TFS.

Ciao Cara Lisa,
Bravo.

Hi Lisa - nice after a scary and sad day here in Boston to be able to lose myself a bit in beautiful photographs like this one. A timeless wreck here, in beautiful light and perfect surroundings. The detail on the hull is amazing - I can count barnacles, it seems. Thanks.

mirosu (16273) 2013-04-15 23:16
You have made a good attempt here, choosing to go in tight on the wooden boat. The composition works well, and the focus with deep DOF draws the attention not only to the boat but also to the sand patterns and the water and hills behind. The boat itself is very well-exposed. Well done.
krzychu30 (15512) 2013-04-16 2:04
you´ve found magnificent object to photograph(lately also Craig has found liking to this kind of scenes:)
For me it´s still amazing how such wrecks can look so charming and picturesque on the photos.
You did really superb job here-I love especially this soft and warm light, that illuminates the boat from the left side and let it shines so beautifully. You were able to capture also the textures perfectly.
Beautiful and very atmospheric scene.
Wish You all the best

Hi Lisa, it is something for Craig, he loves such wrecks. Taken with wonderful evening light. Romantic photo.
It is so wonderful to be in Australia! We had fantastic trip to Kakadu, I am excited about tomorrow Ghan journey. And in two days the highlight of the adventure - Uluru.
It is hot here, already in the morning it was 33. After a walk in sun I am like red monster. I HAVE sunblock but I didn't used it :(.

I like this one a lot. I like the light on the left side of the wreck and the shadow on the right side. The irish sky is beautiful.
It is very nice of you sucking up to your mother in law like this.
Have a nice day

Very attractive capture of the shipwreck. The sunlight and the textures are amazing. Well taken!
bayno (18344) 2013-04-16 6:38
marabu61 (11279) 2013-04-16 14:18
The scone bread looks mouthwatering to me.
As to the boat, you couldn't have taken that any better than that. The light, the colors, the framing, the POV, the gorgeous sky, the reflections in the puddle and the ripples in the sand, all add up to a really beautiful composition.
have a good evening
willperrett (11810) 2013-04-17 2:08
Great evening light, and a dramatic angle to shoot this beautiful old wreck. Very effective image.
photoray (13981) 2013-04-17 6:24
I love the textures and the ancient boat with long loast voyages; the rippled sand, and all in golden lighting.
Have an excellent Autumn,
Cricri (125832) 2013-04-17 9:03
jusninasirun (17527) 2013-04-18 23:25
This is such an amazing boat captured well in fine lighting. The reflection on the little lagoon and the diagonal light are stunning against the beautiful sky. Nice work and bread :-)
Thanks and kind regards.

I can't believe I missed this famous wreck when I was in Donegale ... It is a great subject for photos ! You caught it under a very beautiful light.
Have a nice week end,
sabermonajati (11387) 2013-04-20 8:09
romantic frame with amazing light you captured.
mauro61 (52871) 2013-04-20 9:50
adidas5nb (5743) 2013-04-21 1:53
really like the odd shape of this old boat and its texture.the little puddle under the boat and the sand ripples really adds to the pic.
abmdsudi (57680) 2013-04-23 8:29
Quite an inspired shot of stillness, the remains of the wreck and a dramatic picture but a sad story, a subject that has seen better days and now sadly beached
and forgotten. The warm toning suits it perfectly with the stunning contrast to blue sky but I love the feel seems so serene n peaceful. It's a well taken shot and thks for sharing, Congrats
Didi (60590) 2013-05-22 10:50
Very good picture with lateral lights who give a 3D effect
Good sharp composition
speedymanu (3701) 2013-07-20 5:21
a concentration of textures, enhanced by the light : ripples in the sand, scales on the wood. The way you've framed it emphasizes the sheer mass of the hull.
Have a nice day,
