last weekend, with a couple of friends i went to county kerry, on the south west coast of ireland to climb carrauntoohil, the highest mountain in ireland.
i had been looking forward to the amazing scenery and the chance to take pictures during our seven hour walk. but in the end, there was a blazing sun with the temperature over 25C, the wind at the top was fierce, there was a slight haze on the horizon, and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. the hottest day of the year so far. ordinarily we'd give a right arm for such 'perfect' weather.
not great though for taking photographs. i took about two hundred pictures, and they all looked pretty disappointing due to the harsh sun and no clouds.
the next morning we got up for an early morning drive before breakfast, and we came across this river, the river caragh i think, just after sunrise. the macgillycuddy's reeks mountain range, where we had walked the day before, is in the background. i took two pictures before the midges began to eat us alive.

this is the countryside seen with the eyes of an artist. Excellent management of the difficult light and very beautiful colors. You have captured this magic moment very well. The composition is also outstanding. My compliments!

That's a nice landscape photography.
Nice light and I like the pink sky.
PJE (20758) 2012-06-03 7:10
Brian is this the natural color of the sky or did you use a filter? The added pink tones really does make a nice composition though. Thanks.

You can be proud with this photo. It is amazing. I like the amazing light, some fog in the distance and a great POV, which all contribute to a mysterious atmosphere. Excellent composition with rocks in the river making an interesting foreground and the pink/orange clouds adding a nice final touch.
Funny thing to hear an Irishman to complain about not having enough clouds :)

Hello Brian, I enjoy the pink morning sky and the depth created with the river across the verticals.
The morning light is very pleasant.
I hope that`s a slip of the pen,or were there cannibalistic midgets?
All the best Les.

beautiful place, looks very wild and unspoiled, the photo is very beautiful looks almost like a painting, I wondered if you used some filters, such as tobacco, given the extraordinary color of the sky, I really like your framing and exposure with the slow motion effect on the waters of the stream...beautiful colors...wonderful job...
have a good day...

Argh, Brian, midges and photography are a poor mix!
You did, however persevere long enough to take a rather attractive shot.
I love the pinky sky, which has helped the greens to have a greater vivacity. Your pov uses the water and the stones well, in the f/g with thehazy tree strongly positioned for depth and balance.
Have a lovely day,

What an awful shame you carted your camera gear all the way up the highest mountain in Ireland and didn't manage to get one really good shot. But at least Nature was good to you the following morning (with the exception of the damnable midges) and gave you some wonderful light and colours.
This is a magical photograph with the most glorious and characterful sky and some lovely light on the trees and the water. The long exposure had given the water a lovely soft texture.
A very pleasing composition with lovely vibrant colours, perfect exposure and exquisite sharpness.

Wonderful sunset shot, making good use of the foreground and the tree on the left frame. The sky hues in pastel color makes a lot diff to the compostion, the most intriguing. Lovely atmosphere, clarity and general contrast. Well done. TFS

Jeez you've done well with the exposure here. This is such a difficult type of shot, where your photography skills have certainly been put to the test and come up trumps. Love the pinkish tones in the sky, the filters have done their magic for sure. A beautiful shot. Interesting name, I've come across Glencar in Sligo and Donegal aswell. Anyway, nice work, keep em coming.

it was fun to read your note below. I like the story, the effort and the patience.
as for the photo, i like the contrast in the wet smooth water and the dry clouds, with alot of green and pink in the middle. certainly a very attractive scene.
well captured too.

You really have a knack for catching magical moments. This is again a stunning image, with beautiful clarity, colour and composition.
ourania (30097) 2012-06-24 2:50
a very beautiful picture. A simple landscape becomes for a few moments magical thanks to the suggestive first light of the day and the extraordinary colours and contrasts it creates. Lighting is masterful capturing the wonderful quality of the light that steadily awakens nature and vivifies its colours. Depth and perspective are very effective too. A great moment captured superbly, congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great Sunday and week,

Good light and shadows, I like the technical side
romanaa (7948) 2012-07-17 12:54
stunning sunrise shot worth of suffering you had to face. Great composition. Did you use a gradual filter (- it seems to me so...)? I am thinking of buying some and absolutely do not know what to go for.
Glint (6165) 2012-08-12 15:10
you have so many attractive landscapes but this one stood out immediately because of the pink sunrise.I like the cmposition with the dark silhouette of the big tree on the left contrasting with the bright greens of the others.Your choice of shutter speed has made the water like silk.Delightful!
kasianowak (5928) 2012-09-05 1:37

Interesting tale -- one day, you go zero-of-of-200, the next day, at least 1-for-2 before the game is stopped due to midges.
I imagine (not intending a slight in any way) that there is some PP in this scene, but that this is pretty much what you saw that morning. So I have to ask, did you wonder what had gone so very right as to grant you this fantastic rosy sky and glowing green glen?
