This is Glenveagh in County Donegal, taken one very icy winter's morning a few years ago. I love the poetry of WB Yeats, and the words of his poem To A Child Dancing On The Wind always come to mind when I see this photo.
DANCE there upon the shore;
What need have you to care
For wind or water’s roar?
And tumble out your hair
That the salt drops have wet;
Being young you have not known
The fool’s triumph, nor yet
Love lost as soon as won,
Nor the best labourer dead
And all the sheaves to bind.
What need have you to dread
The monstrous crying of wind?
- WB Yeats

Amazing image taken just after a frozen night, I guess :). Lovely colours, landscape.

Hello Lisa - Beautiful shot, many would have baulked at the tricky light but I love the contrast of the deep rich tones and the pale ephemeral-looking highlights. That's what nature looks like! Rich and varied and oh so subtly beautiful. I think the fairies dance here as well as the child! A real pleasure to view. Warmest regards Rosemary

it was with great interest that I read the lovely poem that is accompanying this fascinating impression of the lake. The mood you have captured is fantastic!
Excellent photo work, a very well composed image with an outstanding management of the light and very moody colors. My compliments!

Complimenti amica mia.
Un caro abbraccio

this landscape is lovely and the picture very well composed and framed. The quality that makes it really captivating is the capture and management of this delightful light. There's excellent clarity and every element has its own merit in the composition. I love the colours, the great or subtle contrasts and the way the deep colours of the right side and the foreground gradually become very light and airy at the distance. An exquisite photo, congratulations and thank you!
All the best,

An omnious scene, with coldness being lit by sun ray warmth, and your Keat's poem reflects the photo you have created. Perhaps, enjoying the moment with all its problems and cares, and ignoring them is bliss, or ???
And looks like a fine place to row a boat.
Keep up the good art works, and enjoy,

Old picture, and you kept it's natural texture and virtue's, Lisa.
I think a summer visit to the place looks a whole different with mostly green. Yet, the lake/fjord in view is overwhelming (remind me of Scotland - and our Irish friends will excuse me).

What a magical place you've captured here for us Lisa, and wow, with perfect light control and beautiful winter colors that are dazzling, making this photo the total package. The DOF is awesome, and the clarity is superb. I really love your POV of this landscape, BRAVO!!

such a delicate landscape, it feels so soft I want to touch it:) Very dreamy atmosphere, the mist accentuates it perfectly!

Ciao Cara Lisa,
Bellissimo paesaggio illuminata da una bella luce.

What a delightfully fitting note and poem for this lovely photograph.
I can fully empathise with Rosemary's views: like her, I think I should have avoided confronting lighting like this with my camera as I know I should surely have failed. But you have captured the scene superbly - from the distant soft light to the stronger light and shade on the near snow covered grass and to the darker contrasty area of trees on the right.
All so expertly and subtly done, with perfect exposure, beautiful soft colours and exquisite sharpness.

It does look cold and icy. If I ever go here I need to bring somebody hot with me to warm me up :)
The light is good with that misty mood, usually I see gray and cloudy condition on many of the photos from Ireland.

Striking beautiful and spectacular view of this charming place. Fabulous composition and format. Marvellously composed this image with splendid colors, sharpness, fantastic clarity to let us notice all the area. I love it a lot. Awesome work. Thanks for sharing and the note.
All the best,

Tanti complimenti, really.
Have a nice day dear

A scenic remote rural landscape viewed on an icy winter morning, beautifully composed with lovely soft winter colouring and slight mist in the distance. The weather makes the image and the remote rural feel is enhanced by the gentle soft winter coloring along with the slight mist in the distance lifted by that little touch of light on the mountain and frosty foreground bog. Really atmospheric shot, Great capture.

pleasant paysage you captured.different weather near by is very interesting.

I like a lot.The long time of exposure add a certain softness to the picture and also a lot of light to the left that provide a nice effect.
Have a nice day

The light appears difficult in this shot but you have managed to capture the chilled, still mood of this quite beautiful area and, having been there, I can testify to its accuracy. The light in the f/g, with its warmer tones, gives way to a gathering mistiness, producing a fine sense of depth and just a hint of Irish mystery.
Have a lovely day,
lakshmip1949 (19081) 2012-04-19 17:14
Namaskar dear Lisa,
An amazing landscape with natural colors. I like the color contrast between the dark green trees and dull colored mountains. I see lots of frost in the foreground giving that special beauty the image. You have managed the light well.
rabdelnoor (3421) 2012-04-19 20:32
Very nice light management, creating a great atmosphere. The icy ground on the front contrasted very well with the warm enviroment on the background. Beautiful colors too.

Superb scene in the wildness of Ireland. I like the frozen grass and the weird sunlight. Well composed, have a nice day.

Of course this is a lovely shot. I note in your reply to John that you think you stuffed the light on the left. I took this as a cue to see if we couldn't do something about that: I'm in deep trepidation of offending you by doing a WS, as your skills don't need my support. Nevertheless, nothing ventured nothing gained: I've darkened the top left corner and lightened the shadows on the right. Hopefully subtley!

Awesome image to accompany such a beautiful poem. I can see the frost on the ground, I like the lighting. Good dof with nice details. The morning mist added to the nice mood. Very well done, tfs.
I'm honored and I'm glad you like post to want to include it in your theme. Thanks.

I've missed quite a few of your recent uploads so will start here. The subtle warm cold colour contrasts reddish orange sunlit grass & the frosty blue tinted shadows works well here. This would make a superb painting! Perfect sharpness & a pleasant partly diffused light. Well composed using the rule of thirds & the central lake makes a good focal point. Tfs!
VarthDader (405) 2012-04-29 21:02
I like the contrast between the washed out sky and the shadowy trees. Must have been quite hard to get a proper exposure.
On another note, Pink Floyd happens to be one of my favourite bands. Just the other day I was playing my version of Wish You Were Here, and decided to record it. Turned out better than I had hoped it would be.
Noel_Byrne (30499) 2014-02-10 10:51
To see a scene like this, it is understandable how the poets could be inspired. While my own verbosity is far too limited to allow me to create verse like you quoted here, it seems fitting to read something like that while gazing on this timeless scene. A beautiful mist hangs in the air, creating a sense of magic, and bringing out the feeling of an ancient place.
Your gallery really really makes me want to go Donegal very soon.
I hope all is well with you and yours.
