There is a slight possibility that I will move out of Ireland. Keeping that in mind I was motivated twice this week to go for a blue hour walk with my camera. You have already seen a photo from the first shooting, the main subject of which was Christ Church Cathedral. Last night I decided to take a blue hour photo of so called Garden of Remembrance which is located in the very centre of Dublin yet quite often missed by tourists and never showed on TE. I had already tested a good POV before. Sadly the park was closed much before the dusk. This is the case with all parks in Dublin which I completely forgot. In the last minute I decided to drive to the riverside hoping that I can spot a good POV...
WHAT YOU SEE
River Liffey, meaning life in Irish, visible in this photo, runs through Dublin city centre. In this picture you may spot three interesting structures. The highest building with the rather simple architecture, called formally Liberty Hall (1965, 59.4m/195ft) houses the headquarters of SIPTU, Irelands largest trade union. One may speculate that having one of the highest buildings in Ireland they may be very influential, ...or just the opposite, by the size of the headquarters they try to compensate for something. Huge spire with the beam of light on the very top is officially called the Monument of Light or simply the Spire. It is 121.2 metres (398 ft) high and it marks the middle of OConnell Street, one of the main streets in Dublin City Centre. To see both Liberty Hall and the Spire from another POV CLICK HERE. The elegant brownish building with the green dome is the Custom House. To read more about it and to see it in the daylight CLICK HERE.

Hi Mariusz,a very intelligent choice of point of view to create this magic perpsective,a cloudy blue hour and the magic lights of the city reflected in the silk effect on the water made by the long time of exposure.Super details and sharpness,i like it! Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

This is a very fine picture taken at a lovely time of the day. There are some magnificent colours in the reflections. The inclusion of the anchor (is that what it is?) strongly in the FG makes the composition very strong. Super quality tripod work.
Kind Regards, Ann

Hello Mariusz - A good composition, from the FG cable hooks in the little puddle of blue reflection to the bridge and city lights beyond, there is a good balance of detail and interest. The water has been captured with a beautiful silky smoothness and I like the fact that one can still see a little textural detail in it. The reflected lights are a super vertical band of soft and pretty colours. Nice work. Warm regards Rosemary

I loved this area of Dublin when I've been there, it is full of great modern architecture and the old buildings on the docks are a good subject for photography. A nice blue hour shot. The reflections of artifical lights in the Liffey are very nice. You used very well the anchor in the foreground and the perspctive line of the quay.
Have a nice week end,

Wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!! The sharpness and the light were unbelievable!!!!

this is so beautifully composed and executed. Blue hour shots always intrigue and fascinate me, probably because it is a style of photography that I have yet to really master. Strange as I do love the colour blue!! I love the light on the fg anchor it adds just the right element to this stunning image. Superb!!!
Enjoy the weekend - Brian.

This is a very colorful and attractive riverside scene, with, as usual, a great foreground. The city lights, the modern-style bridge, interesting architecture and the river itself make the the very well balanced composition. Excellent presentation of this part of Dublin!

macjake (73059) 2012-01-14 18:19
yes, as i mentioned on your FB page, i'm very impressed that the entire photo is sharp and clear - hard to do that when there is a subject so close up, even with a small apperature.
my favorite part is how the water looks like frozen water, and the colors the flow into it.
i9l2y1m8a8t3 (4814) 2012-01-14 18:28
Superb clarity, sharpness and clean image! The colors seem pale but I love the palette of pastel colors. Love the effect of the silky water, the distorted reflection of lights and the city at the background. The hook is a nice focus point in the FG. I guess the square format really worked well in this image. Nice composition and POV!

Good pov and pleasant composition with a good fg, perfect brightness, light is well managed, i like also all these reflections on the water, very colourful, tfs
ikeharel (79149) 2012-01-15 1:23
Blue and purple hour, is very adequate tone upon this city in dusk, and light managed well with 15sec. exp. and had an effect on water's mirror.
Good details show clearly, just what is this iron object in close range? an anchor maybe?
Enjoy your sunday.
mauro61 (52887) 2012-01-15 3:11
una bellissima immagine della solita qualitŕ a cui ci hai abituato.
BG ricco di luce e colori in cui viene esaltata la architettura della cittŕ, e FG con l'elemento a creare profonditŕ oltre che composizione.

A nice catchy image of Dublin, the blue hour. Light, exposure, sharpness are excellent. Bravo.

Fantastic blue hour, dear friend, with a stunning clarity that allows us to appreciate the details more distant. The silky surface of the water creates a pleasant atmosphere of tranquility, suitable for the evening. Excellent work, dear Mariusz, and sincere wishes for your job opportunities.
Ciao, have a nice week!
brianmcc (6221) 2012-01-15 13:35
even though the colours in this picture give the impression of a warm, inviting, waterfront, i'm sure it was pretty cold. the atmosphere in the scene is wonderful. very interesting foreground with the massive metal hooks reminding us of the industrial and nautical history of the river, contrasted with the modern service orientated, office buildings in the background. wonderful detail and sharpness.
raszid62 (18515) 2012-01-15 14:33
Świetna kompozycja w doskonałej jakośći i w cudownej kolorystyce.

Hi dear Mariusz
Happy New Year to you, I'm just back from 3 weeks in Malaysia, so apologise for my delay in responding. A slight possibility you might move from Ireland? Does this mean a possible job elsewhere? I truly wish you the best, wherever you go...and of course look forward to your spectacular photos. This is your specialty, the Blue Hour par eccellence. Superb lighting, fantastic original POV and pin-sharp definition. I couldn't ask for a better welcome back.

bardzo ladny efekt i bdb kadr. Podoba mi sie takze ta feeria kolorow. Udalo Ci sie uzyskac dobra ostrosc na wszystkich planach. Chyba tu juz wszystko powiedziano. Solidna praca.
Milego tygodnia zycze.
josepmarin (58359) 2012-01-16 2:55
a good title for this beautiful capture at the blue hour, which you have realized with a great elegance in the composition.
I like the iron hook that repeats itself along the wharf in a very dynamic diagonal, and the sight of the illuminated city in background, where three different architectural structures are outlined on a very photogenic sky.
The management of the exposure time is magnificent, combined perfectly with a F value which gives a great depth and a high quality to the image.
A splendid work.
adramad (49956) 2012-01-16 5:31
A magical light you've captured in this wonderful image of the city, very nice POV with those grappling hooks at the dock, beautiful reflections of the river, with a sky so beautiful, lit buildings add charm to this amazing image. Well done ... I love it.
Most cordial greetings.

siolaw (38294) 2012-01-18 21:06
Good compo with focus on the "hooks" in the FG, a strong diagonal and nice lights, colours and city view in the back.
Interesting frozen texture of the water surface.
andywo (4725) 2012-01-22 8:53
Swego czasu wloczylem sie troche nad brzegami rzeki Liffey, dlatego ten kadr przywoluje wspomnienia. Pieknie wykorzystales tutaj efekt blue hour, niezly kadr z ta cuma na pierwszym planie i nowoczesnym budownictwem w glebi.
cavli (1876) 2012-01-24 4:31
excelent night landscape picture. cery nice colors indeed. I like sharpness and cleartiy of the picture very much. good dof.
Angshu (56760) 2012-01-27 4:58
So what happened in Newcastle?
The round dome of the cathedral darws the eyes instantly towards it...more so because the other buildings are dark & the sky has also taken shades of deep blue. The 15 sec exposure creates a sheen on the water. Interesting idea to have the anchor in the FG...it 'anchors' the shot well (pun intended) & also creates a good sense of depth!
SWEETFREEDOM (24621) 2012-02-11 0:14
great job, very good exposure and colors.
very good sharpness too
COSTANTINO (70182) 2012-02-15 12:48

hour,a cloudy blue hour with magic lights
super quality tripod work
sharpness and clarity are nice
Waylim (25436) 2012-02-23 13:07
Beautiful blue hour shot. I think the square format is okay here, but not needed. the inclusion of the foreground boat anchor actually is a little distracting for me. It is too dark and strong shape that take aways the clean composition. The technical quality is great as always.
Noel_Byrne (33724) 2012-12-03 9:52
Beautiful presentation of Dublins skyline, and your note made me smile, especially reference the unions :) I love how there is so many varied neon lights on the buildings along here now, bringing some much needed brightness to the area. The inclusion of the hooks in the foreground is genius, and that water looks superb, like silk!
All the best
