This photo was taken in the National Botanic Gardens in Dublin. Deep in the centre, below the arch, you can spot the Palm House. Behind my back there is another glasshouse hence the shadows.
Like with all institutions in Ireland which are called “national” (e.g. National Museum, National Gallery, etc), the access to this garden is free of charge.
Botanical gardens similarly to zoological gardens are kind of similar all over the world so tourists rarely visit them. If you want to meet locals these are good places to go.

I like this composition very much because you used the shadow to add more interest to the shot, make it more lively, as nobody was around. Good light management and excellent DOF. Well done
rodgerg (55767) 2011-10-01 4:48
Excellent FG with the very graphic play of shade and the gate which give a beautiful framing and a greta depht with the prospect open to the garden and the glasshouse which arise in the BG.

stevesaba (8023) 2011-10-01 6:01
Very well seen, and perfectly done! I gather you are surrounded by these glass houses! You have really managed the light wonderfully here with the distant house perfectly exposed. A very striking composition. Warm regards,

there is a fantastic game of light and of shades in this image, and you have chosen a very creative framing, in which you have used the stone arch as a frame for the nice glass-building that we see across it.
The composition is very attractive and has a high quality of image and an excellent light.
A beautiful work.

Luce ben gestita e colori delicati.

faktycznie jak wejscie do tajemniczego ogrodu. Bardzo ladne ujecie z odpowiedniego punktu widzenia. Bardzo ladna kompozycja i format. Bardzo ladne naturalne kolory, sliczne niebo i piekna architektura szklani. Wspaniala praca.
Sersdecznie pozdrawiam i zycze milej niedzieli,

Well taken and framed Mariusz. The other shadows add extra interest.

This well-proportioned glasshouse looks great having been captured by you inside such an aesthetic arch and against the wonderfully clouded blue sky. A very well thought-out composition, a lot of interesting details, excellent quality and informative note!

The architecture of the arc is at once beautiful and interesting. The botanical greenhouse is skillfully presented. The austere color of the stone brings to light colors. Excellent light, colors and neatness. Bravo.

You chose a very nice angle and a good moment with the gate as eye catcher in foreground, excellent frame.
Composition and depth image are nice.
Pleasant color, good presentation. TFS.

Good use of the arch to highlight the Palm House down there.
Pleasant light and good naturally saturated colours.

what a marvelous composition, you could make a story out of excellent composition and great control of highlights and shadows. A picture with dynamism, love your view point and how the passage ways invite the eye to explore further beyond. Archway shots are always intriguing and there is a mix of invitation and mystery sometimes.. There are lots of random elements working well. Good lead-through with the cobbled pathway and beyond. Strong on detail, the stonework is fascinating with lots of charm about this place. Lighting is good and the overall effect is very pleasing to the eye. Brilliant capture, a place of historal value, and thanks to your notes. Congrats.

Hi dear Mariusz
What a beautiful place, not before seen on TE I believe. Your composition reminds me a little of Brian's (timecapturer). I love the depth of field and the marvellous natural colours. A really artistic and unique way to show us this wonderful place.
Have a great evening

So taken the 24 September with sun and blue sky?
Please not to complain about the weather, not yet..
Great idea to use the arch as a frame to the beautiful Botanical building that I usually visit like the Brooklyn Garden in New York
Greetings and TFS
A suggestion ..a close approach at the building?
marcan44 (6223) 2011-10-05 0:33
Angshu (53659) 2011-10-05 7:00
The framing has been done well through the arched gate. Its the shadows which create a good lead-in into the image. The lavender coloured plants on the gate...are they heather? The slightly angular take is good as well, rather than a straight on approach. Good light & nice colours. Good to see a new picture from Dublin :-)
paololg (31448) 2011-10-05 8:47
Masterful management of light and sharpness, dear Mariusz, every detail is perfect! The good choice of the POV gives a excellent depth to the photo, perhaps for the effect of the long shadows across the arch. A good demonstration of your talent and of love for the nature of the Irish. BRAVO!
Ciao, have a nice evening!
adramad (32821) 2011-10-05 9:57
A large composition that's also very beautiful, ideal as you have framed in the arch, the greenhouse glass pavilion, which offers a good light, with the beautiful sky that is ideal, the foreground give strength and image contrast with these well-defined shadows, you get a nice graphics.
As always a job well done, with proper brightness, sharpness and color.
fabianoleite (9162) 2011-10-05 20:10
The arch made a good frame for the glass palace in behind, and the shadows enriched the composition. Good work, congratulations!
batalay (33859) 2011-10-24 5:53
You've created a dramatic photo of the green house, framing it with the arched entryway. Thanks for the informative note about the National Botanic Gardens of Dublin, as well as the explanation of the somewhat distracting shadows in the foreground.
jafadabret (56497) 2011-11-03 11:33
Waylim (24302) 2011-11-14 18:03
Really good shot with great POV looking through the arch doorway, you managed very well the strong shadows, Ideally I would have like to see it with less shadow it makes kind of too busy in the foreground, but you did the best under such condistion.
ikeharel (46914) 2012-02-05 2:36
I like the shadows mingled with the many photographic-elements on scene: The palm-house you mentioned under the arc which has a fine stone-work, garden with blue sky seem through.
A nice premeditated image.
SnapRJW (26034) 2014-01-01 10:39
Happy New Year Mariusz! Thanks for pointing me in the direction of this shot. I love the way you have framed the palm house and used the arch as a feature. The sharp shadows add another layer of interest and I guess that they are cast by another glass house. I hope you have a wonderful 2014 and your family enjoy good health, happiness and prosperity. Warm regards Rosemary
