Photographer’s Note
This picture was taken at a wonderful September early morning, and we are the only people at this time of the day. Lucky we are.
The monastery of Clonmacnoise (Cluain Mhic Nóis in Irish, meaning "Meadow of the Sons of Nós") is situated in County Offaly, Ireland on the River Shannon south of Athlone. It was visited by the Pope in 1979. The site can be visited for a fee, via an Interpretative Centre. A visit to Clonmacnoise is recommended by boat from Shannonbridge each Sunday during the summer.
Clonmacnoise was founded in 545 by Saint Ciarán in the territory of Ui Maine at the point where the major east-west land route through the bogs of central Ireland along the Eiscir Riada, an esker or moraine left by the receding glaciers of the last ice age crossed the River Shannon.

I like this very much. You have shot from a low pov which gives emphasis to the size of the headstone in front. I also how like how you have shot the headstone at a slight angle rather than straight on. Also the positioning between the headstone in the foreground and the tower in the background forms a nice diagonal and gives a good sense of perspective. Spot on.

Hallo Hartmut
Irish graveyards must be very busy places... but I join you in finding these celtic crosses a superb photo subject. What does not look irish at all is the spotless blue sky, seems you've been lucky that day with the weather
have a nice day JY

Hi Hartmut, it's very hard to resist a good Celtic Cross - especially when there's a wondeful old monastery standing behind it. My good friends come from near this place, in Tullamore. Offaly is not photographed enough on this site so thanks for doing it justice with this beautiful, nicely composed shot. TFS and enjoy your Friday, Lisa.

Bonjour Hartmut.
Il y a ici trois éléments indissociables de l'Irlande, les croix celtiques, la tour ronde et le beau vert du sol. Et tout ça dans une bonne composition et sous une belle lumière.
Que du bonheur !
Bon week end !
Amitiés

Hi Hartmut,
A very nice tower and a nice celtic cross that both stand out well against the sky. The texture of the stones is very well rendered. An excellent sharpness and fantastic light. Well done!
Thanks for sharing,
