Photographer’s Note

Hi Trekkies,
Today I would like to show you a real monument of humans eccentricity! :)
What you see here is the lighthouse... but WHERE IS THE SEA??? :) So, no any sea here! We are in the middle of County Meath, approx 90km from the sea shore! :)
Can you imagine, how passing motorist are confused? I was really deeply, so I decided to stop and make some pics to show you this strange place!:)
Name of this strangest building in Ireland is the "Tower of Loyd" The tower is roughly 100 feet high and has a lantern round the top, in the manner of a lighthouse. It was built in the late 18th century by the lst Earl of Bective. Why such a thing exists is not so clear. There are those who say that the tower was built so that the Headfort family could sit in it and watch various country pursuits taking place. Others say it was built to provide employment at a time of economic hardship or is no more than a "folly".
Anyway, this place is definitely one of "must" to visit in beautiful Co. Meath.

fajna kompozycja z centralnie umieszczonymi elementami, a wszystko bardzo ciekawie pokazane szerokim katem. Pogoda typowa, ale wyszlo ladnie i oryginalnie.

Witaj Chris.
Teraz sie ludzie dziwia po co 90km od morza latarnia morska. A facet nie byl glupi. Zobaczysz za kilka lat jak EIRE pojdzie pod wode ;)

Czesc Chris,
bardzo intrygujace zdjecie. Mnie sie najbardziej podoba kompozycja -symetria.
Kolorystyka rowniez bardzo fajna: chmury i niebo wyszly tak wlasnie przygnebiajaco jak to w Irlandii.
A pomimo tej szarosci wszystko dobrze doswietlone i naturalnie kolorowe.

haha, rzeczywiście fajna latarnia w środku lądu. Dobrze, ze tak daleko od mporza, bo przynajmniej statki sie nie nabiorą. A czy w nocy wysyła sygnały? Fajna symetria.

Musze przyznac ze zadziwiajaca jest ta wieza... skojarzenie z latarnia morska jest jednoznaczne. Coz, wiele dziwactw kryje ten swiat... ;o)) Fajny symetryczny kadr, chociaz pogoda raczej nie dopisala.

Hi Chris,

Indeed a strange idea building a lighthouse 90 Km from the sea. I could understand better if some eccentric millionaire had built something alike 900 Km from the sea, just to have a "taste" of sea, but 90 Km isn't such a great distance. Anyway, it gave you a nice subject that you treated very well with your "mighty" wide angle. I like the low POV and the alignment of the small landmark with the tower. The cloudy sky makes a great backdrop here.

It's curious that last Monday I gave up shooting a lighthouse because it is in a place from where we can't see the sea because of the trees and houses around it. I find strange that they built the lighthouse so far away from the sea, but we are talking about 100 or 200 meters from the real sea and about 50 from the mouth of a river.

effettivamente un faro senza il mare non è una cosa che si vede tutti i giorni.
Buona la cattura e la proposta.
Personalmente avrei angolato un po' l'inquadratura.

dear Chris,
I like strange objects, and Japanese people too.
we have lots of books collecting wonder and strange objects and phenomena.
in my thinking, the lighthouse not for ships on the sea was made by some reasons,
landmark on the ground, the sight-view point, and I guess human like the tower itself, or nostalgic imagination to the ocean...
anyway this your capturing is interesting and joyful,
fore little pedestal looks continuing the tower.
and lines on the ground make strange perspective in it.

Niesamowita przestrzen i doskonala kompozycja. Kolory..no coz- Irlandia;) Interesujace miejsce wynalazles- faktycznie kto spodziewal by sie latarni tak daleko od morza;)

Indeed it's a very strange lighthouse
Nice and deep foreground.
I suggest you for the next time for the same case to make a stitch of two picture for having a better perspective.
