Photographer’s Note
This was taken from one of the bridges across the river Shannon. For some reason, there's great lighting in Limerick. It was a rather rainy day but it made for very haunting photos. Limerick is a city and county seat of County Limerick, in the province of Munster. It lies on the river Shannon and has a population of about 91,000 people. It's an old city, dating to at least 812, when it was settled by Vikings. The Normans redesigned the city in the 12th century and were responsible for some of its most notable features still seen today, including King John's Castle and St. Mary's Cathedral. The city played an important role in the 17th century, when it was beseiged by Oliver Cromwell in 1651. It grew in affluence during the 18th century because of trade, but was hit hard by the famine in the mid 19th-century, and has really only recently begun to recover.
