[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Within Oughaval Wood, Stradbally, Co. Laois, is what is known as the "Mass Rock". During the 17th and 18th centuries Roman Catholics were persecuted under the Penal Laws, and so this site was hidden deep in the wood to avoid detection.

The tree-covered area still attracts attention, as can be seen from the hand-made crosses scattered around the base of the rock.

Hi Andrew,
Nice "gothic" photo you have here - and the note is useful too.
I like these atmosphere shots, that tell a whole story :)
This one actually inspired me for my next post.
Thanks for sharing,
Tudor

- Muirnín.. please...
don't take more photos of my GreatGreatGrandparent's graves again when you come back to Ireland..and please don't do that in Mexico,Spain,Italy, France, Prusia, GB,Germany and Scotland ( i've got relatives there too.. and I'm a little jewish too, and always Catholic)
but i have to admit that you were very sensitive and we can see all the way we passed through for the love of God and it's always worth it.
My Gaelish is very few
but the only thing i can say about the inscrption is that the person was about my age his name was Peik he was very loved by his family and seems that maybe gaelish has a little Norway's roots.

Yes i'm a nerd in a rainy day..and i just have a question.. What happened to Mr.Peik between all those few years of his young life.. and of course i don't know so when you don't know something ask to Mr.Google..What happened through 1691 to 1727 on Ireland what happened with Mr. Peik's life..(ijustdidcopy-paste,mybraindoesn't give too much..)In 1691 the Act Test is dictated (Law of Test),that ritual Anglican demanded to whatever held positions public to receive the sacraments in agreement with it.To the being extended to Ireland it brought like evident result the exclusion of the catholics of the Parliament of Dublín.Between 1695-98 the catholic middle-class is excluded from all the works and professions. All this becomes by means of penal laws that the same Parliament of Dublín dictates. This organism approves in 1698,by orders of the Mother country,a prohibitive tax on the export of Irish wools to other countries.During that same year,Molyneux, member of the Irish Parliament, under the heading of the University of Dublín,being publishes The marries of Ireland bound by Acts of Parliament in England Stated(the case of Ireland being dominated by the laws that dictates the English Parliament),in which it legally declares historically and independent the Irish Parliament. England reign one becomes the greater marine power and owner of the seas in 1702 with Queen Ana ;Scotland is based with England on 1707,forming therefore the United Kingdom of Great Britain, with a single Parliament, although with the condition of which the presbiterianismo would be the only government of the Scottish Church. It is also during that period that dictates a Penal Code elaborated by the Parliament of Dublín with the approval of the English Parliament. Also in 1727 a procedure of regularización of the property consecrated in a law takes shape that establishes the crossing of property of catholics to protestants, which makes of the anglicanismo a property title. This way,the Irish catholics are undressed of their right of vote. Thus not only the catholics would be private of the possibility of being elect in the Parliament of Dublín according to Act Test of 1691,but that from 1727 could not either be at least electing. The testimonial Literature of that time shows to us through the words of Olivers Swift which was to feel of that town:"Ireland is the only kingdom by me known so much in old history as modern to which the right has refused him to export its own products where agrees to him. Therefore,it is demonstrated that this freedom by superiority refuses to us purely that gives the force...All government who does not count on the support of the governed ones is the same definition of the slavery. Now the religion is not the matter of question, now life is all the matter and i think is time to face the true answers which are the facts that are surrounding our lives now and the future lives. Well nerdtime is over, It stops raining.. but I need more nerdtime..
