Photographer’s Note

Today I invite you to visit County Kildare. You can spend there at least one pleasant day (weather permitting of course). I will tell you about the trip which I took together with darek1978 and you can redesign it to your needs.
First tip: if you have a partner who is not as excited about photography as yourself there is a perfect place to accommodate this person for some time: Kildare Village. That is not the largest but probably one of the most interesting shopping centres in Ireland. I don’t want to advertise it too much because always when I tried to take my camera out of the bag, immediately two-three security guys were running screaming that photography is not allowed here. I will not comment on that.
Kildare town itself has a pretty St Brigid’s Cathedral (founded in 480) with a round tower behind it. Some guidebooks recommend a visit in Monasterevin, I don’t think there is anything to see or do there. Same about further Portarlington town.
After some successful shopping, couple of photos and lunch in the Kildare town you can go for a pleasant walk in the National Stud and Japanese Gardens. Very nice place but a bit overpriced.

From DK guidebook to Ireland:
Round towers (presented in this picture), often over 30m tall, were built between 10th and 12th centuries on monastic sites. They were bell towers, used as places of refuge and to store valuable manuscripts. The entrance, which could be as high as 4m above ground, was reached by a ladder that was hauled up from inside. Other movable ladders connected the tower’s wooden floors.
