Photographer's Note

Valentia island is an other detour from the beaten track that is the ring of Kerry. The 11km long island can be reached either by a bridge from the pleasant harbor town of Portmagee or by ferry from Caherciveen.
It sports some breathtaking views like the Fogher Cliffs or some stunningly beautiful coastline.
In 1858 Valentia island was choosen as the site for the first transatlantic telegraph cable putting Caherciveen in direct contact with New York. The link worked for 27 days only although.
A Tip: if you plan to tour the ring of Kerry it is best to do it clockwise, as the big bus tours all travel counterclockwise and you really don't want to be stuck behind an ugly tour bus on the narrow lanes on the ring.
