I couldn't resist temptation to make this shot and now to post it here. I stood on the other side of the street, so there are some reflections in the windows. Walking around Dublin I have observed that there are so many fat people, very often quite young. Something like in Scotland. This observation is justified, obesity is a health problem in Ireland. According to health report, in Ireland at the present time 39% of adults are overweight and 18% are obese. Of these, slightly more men than women are obese and there is a higher incidence of the disease in lower socio-economic groups. The prevalence of overweight and obesity has increased with alarming speed over the past twenty years. It has recently been described by the World Health Organisation as a 'global epidemic'. In the year 2000 more than 300 million people worldwide were obese and it is now projected that by 2025 up to half the population of the United States will be obese if current trends are maintained. The disease is now a major public health problem throughout Europe.
Most worrying of all is the fact that childhood obesity has reached epidemic proportions in Europe.
he most convenient way of measuring obesity is to compare a person’s weight with their height, and this is done using the body mass index BMI. BMI is your weight in kilos divided by your height in metres squared. The number for adults should be between 20 and 25, in order for your weight to be considered ideal for your height. Under 20 is underweight, and over 25 is overweight.
Well, I am afraid that after Christmas my BMI have risen. First, days spent in the kitchen near the stove and sink, then sitting and eating... .
I hope that you all were good during 2013 and Santa was generous. And your BMI is not much higher than before the holidays :)

Wow, and that's a note! Very informative.:-) I think obesity is not totally on the amount of food that we take, but on the kind. Obese people takes a load of fat and saturated fat mostly taken from fast foods. And oh, this image was taken from a McCafe. I have just read this morning that McDonald's employees were warned by the company's McResource website about the health dangers of eating fast food.
I think your photo fits the news I just read today. Perfect shot! Well captured!
Have a nice day!

This is a great daily life shot full of atmosphere and ideally suited to the black and white treatment. Even in France, obesity is on the rise though perhaps not yet as much as in other parts of Europe.

Super realizacja!

Not only an intriguing image for the mixture of architecture and people and reflections, but also an informative and valuable message on unhealthy eating habits.
We Yanks definitely have a problem with diet, overeating and frequently way too much sugar, sodium, saturated fats, etc....
We are bombarded by the food industry with very clever propaganda, conveyed via tv, radio, ad signs, internet, etc.
Best health and best wishes for happiness with the New Year for you, family and friends,

a really arty shot and presentation this. Like the use of B&W and the mix of human and abstract interest is fascinating. Well done!

This is a very artistic vision, and I would never believe it to be Dublin if I just randomly came across the image. Its a beautiful choice of view on the city, and there are many elements to see here. The clock with the man over it looks almost like a ghost, and the woman in the far bottom right corner makes a fascinating subject.
And indeed, you are right about the size of people, definitely getting fatter and a subject that is on the news here in Ireland more and more often. Its becoming a huge problem, and its funny that you mention Scotland, as one thing we share with Scotland is a propensity for fried foods, or chippers as they are known here. I've never been a fan, so I think I've avoided the side effects, but they are everywhere. A recent report showed the food poverty in Ireland is increasing, and because of this people are buying cheaper food, which is worse for your health. A vicious cycle to say the least.
At a point in time when the people of Ireland are fatter than ever, the people of Ireland are spending less on food that at any point in the past 90 years. What a world!
A great shot Malgo, thought provoking and a beautiful B&W result.
All the best

Siamo impazziti a fare i conti qui in famiglia.

Hi dear Malgo, how are you recently?
Sorry for my late reaction as I was so busy last week.
A little different image from your daily posting style, very authentic and moody in B&W color touch. Ya reflection is very good idea to make slight accent.
Thank you for your sharing and have a good weekend!
