Baltimore Beacon, Co. Cork

My stay in and around Baltimore County Cork which is at the very bottom of Ireland was hampered with overcast skies and persistent drizzly rain. Iv wanted to capture this beacon for a while now and had a few ideas on compositions and such. After hanging around for two days I just could not wait any longer and had to move on.

I included this couple into the composition as it give a scale to the beacon. Its a great place to stand and just look out over the harbour. Iv afew shots taken on the day of my departure when the weather cleared for a while but I really wanted to engage the lighthouse across the river in dawn or dusk light.

Baltimore Beacon, is also known as Lot's Wife. This large stone structure at the entrance to Baltimore Harbour was originally built at the order of the British government after the 1798 rebellion. It was part of a series of lighthouses and beacons dotted around the Irish coast, forming a warning system.

Hi Steve,
Interesting pov with great colours in front from those little flowers, great contrast to the rest of the scenery which looks plain grey. The human in red also adds a nice detail to it while also your vertical composition works pretty good.
Is my eye fooling me, or is there a very small tilt on the horizon?
Regards, Henk

Hi Stephen,
glad that youīre still with us if I see how close you got to that cliff :)
Nice how the sea stays just above the horizon, and the flowers and the people make it all much livelier. Donīt mind the grey sky, itīs Ireland after all!
Regards, Johannes

Hi Stephen
a nice vivid composition, the foreground flowers are vwery nice and the sky photogenic.
regards,didier

Hi Stephen,
Another fine composition with striking depth of field. I really like the spots of color in the foreground lead to the tower. Good idea and well presented. TFS. Gerald

Hi Steve
I like this shot, nice view with good dof and colours and at the same time we can sense how deep the sea is.
Very nice job
cheers

Hi Stephen,
Not a great weather for photos, very cloudy, but you could make a nice shot finally. A great composition, with lovely colours in the foreground, a good depth of field, and people foot of Baltimore Beacon who give a nice scale for height of both stone structure and cliffs.
Regards,
Olivier

Hi Stephen,
It is a very curious shot with the beacon position on the landscape :-) i like the idea of including the person for giving an idea of the scale. Very good and typical colors of marine landscape from Irlande (we have that kind of flowers also in brittany on the coast).
Well done, an other good job to present that original beacon.
Best regards,
Olivier
