A walk through the narrow streets of Kinsale is a lovely way to spend the late afternoon. This shot was taken in Main Street which at this time of day was almost deserted, the day trippers had all gone home!
Originally a medieval fishing port, historic Kinsale (from the Irish, Ceann tSaile - 'Head of the Sea') is one of the most picturesque, popular and historic towns on the south west coast of Ireland. In the 17th and 18th centuries, Kinsale was an important English naval base and a Garrison town until the early 20th century leaving a legacy of Victorian and Georgian architecture.
The beginning of the 20th century heralded Kinsale’s economic decline and many of the town’s fine houses and buildings became derelict. The 1960’s saw the transformation of Kinsale from a rundown and jaded town, into the charming, lively and prosperous one it is today. Through the establishment of the ‘Good Food Circle’- a co-operation which first started with just two restaurants determined to produce a great food and run an annual Gourmet Festival led to Kinsale becoming known as ‘the Gourmet Capital of Ireland. Following the success of the restaurants came the revival of Kinsale’s history in the arts and crafts guilds. Pottery, silver, gold, candles, glassware are all manufactured in the town, while the other artistic fields of sculpture, painting in all mediums, ceramics and photography are well represented by inspired local artists.

Les bandes jaunes apportent une touche graphique supplémentaire à cette jolie photo de cette petite rue aux boutiques colorées.

Not expecting to see this luminous scenery and colorful houses under a clear blue sky in Ireland !
But the result of this long perspective is just superb
have a nice day, best regards

J'aime beaucoup cette composition. Elle ressort dans la galerie par ses couleurs un petit peu travaillées en post traitement. J'aime l'effet entonnoir qui donne de la profondeur à la composition et le net que ce soit clair des deux côtés de la rue.

Its like 28 Days Later, but in Kinsale! I love it! I have no idea how you managed to capture an Irish town with no people, but the result is beautiful.
And once again, you have opened my eyes to a world of color on my own doorstep, much of which I had never noticed until you shared your photos from Ireland. Ive said it before, but to say it again, thank you for that. I will travel Ireland with new eyes now to look for the color that you so successfully found and captured.
Your perspective here is amazing, an almost 3D feeling that invites the viewer in to go exploring this beautiful place.
Thanks as always

There is a very good sense of perspective looking down this long narrow street. Your viewpoint invites to step into the frame and follow the yellow guiding lines, leading to a strong vanishing point in the picture. The pastel colours of the façades along with the stunning blue of the sky are a feast for the eyes. Nice sharpness and exposure as well. Well done.

I bet the Irish tourist board would like to get this one in their brochure. It is so vibrant and colourful. Even the no-parking lines look freshly painted. An enticing and attractive perspective full of amazing detail. Looks wonderful.

Nice picture of this cute village of Kinsale. I remember the incredible colours of this place and your picture shows it very well ! Good POV too that uses very well the perspective lines to add depth. Excellent colours and sharpness too.
Have a nice day,
aleXundar (1256) 2014-01-15 6:52
It is indeed a colourful street scene (sky included).
Looks like the houses are also newly painted. I admit, we in Kolkata, rarely see such clean yellow-bordered streets in the city. Wonderful shot with great depth and clarity.
CLODO (29914) 2014-01-15 7:23
What a perspective well underlined by the yellow stipes along the pavements, the nice colored walls of the shops add some impact.

Hello Rosemary ,
Well saturated colors and superb perspectivte for this typical irish street . I looks a little similar to a portuguese one !
holmertz (39467) 2014-01-15 7:56
Normally I would love to see a few people walking down a street like this, but I will make an exception in this case. It offers such a colourful view and many fine details that compensate well for the lack of human presence. Even the yellow lines look delightful :-).
photographer_sg (3531) 2014-01-15 8:10
Wonderful capture with great colours and composition. The shadowed white wall on the right perfectly complements the colorful buildings on the left. The lamp with the improvised bracket is beautifully positioned against the blue sky. Thanks for sharing.

A charming village full of colour, charm and character and I can imagine there are lots of photo opportunities there. Superb compo, good perspective with 3D effect that you can feel that long lonely walk all the way down, I think you have achieved what you set out to do as this certainly gives it some cheery atmosphere. I think the stunning colors just jump out even in dull, wet weather. Quite simply put it's a photographer's paradise. A great photo carefully taken but I miss the human touch. Congrats

Quite unusual photo from ireland, anyway for me. Nice narrow street with no traffic (I like this!), with beautiful houses in pastel colours, nice lamps and reflections in windows. The photo has fantastic colours and perspective. I have heard that in ireland always rains, and what blue sky you have here.
Warm regrads Malgo
I posted this thread about size on general forum to discuss it among members, rather than with technical team. Some people should think while posting that the size bigger than say 1500 px is useless and resize it . Like you, I just do not look at too big pictures and not give critiques.
this size is perfect - I see the whole image, the note, there is good quality and many details.

it is a photographer`s dream with such a colorful and nice environment:) You have captured this scene from an excellent spot that allows us to see much of this interesting street. I like the depth in this shot, and the clarity and colors of course!
Have a nice evening/

Charming and lovely narrow street!
Not open to cars, is it?
Very beautiful, attractive and pleasant-looking picture!
Sharpness, exposure, colors, horizontal format, chosen pov and composition are all excellent!
TFS - congrats,
jemaflor (82934) 2014-01-15 23:28
beautiful street with these coloured façades, well managed, interesting depth effect with these lines and perfect light capture and contrast.
trevormoffiet (3046) 2014-01-16 3:09
An inviting image. I love the perspective. The houses and road diminish in size towards the red building which covers the vanishing point. The wedge shapes of blue and black counterbalance each other vertically as do the receding successions of buildings on each side of the road.
macjake (54856) 2014-01-16 8:09
perhaps i'm very ignorant....I've never heard of this colorful town before!
I'll have to take a look on TE for more photos as soon as i finish writing this note.
for some reason it reminds me a bit of Copenhagen with all those colors.
really like how you made the purple and yellow POP in the fg, it grabs our visual attention immediately.
good depth and the long lines work so well to take us on a journey :)
dekanski (2881) 2014-01-16 8:23
so simple, but so nice! You have a good eye for composition, a great sense of color!

I like the vivid colours of this photo, together with the detailed description.
ManuMay (34411) 2014-01-16 10:02
Sense of depth is very well payed here, the Street leading our view till the end, and the amazing and surpressive colours, even light management is fantastic...I like it very much.
Have a nice day...
williewhistler (13511) 2014-01-16 12:22
its not often that I enjoy the sight of double yellow lines but they do add a nice touch to this very attractive and colourful scene.
The light is lovely and you have taken full advantage of it,a lovely shot.
Kind regards Les.
PaulVDV (21631) 2014-01-16 16:22
A very beautiful and bright picture with an excellent depth.
The yellow lines lead us well along the colourful houses.
That purple colour in front is very special for the doors of a house while the lantern on top is a piece of art.
And that all under a brilliant blue sky.
Best regards, Paul

I don't remember Kinsale being so colourful 20 years ago when we visited. The facades are wonderful especially the one with purple paint! The yellow lines immediately caught my attention when viewing the TN and I think are important components of the composition as they draw my eye along the narrow street. Beautifully photographed.
Kind Regards, Ann
BennyV (13566) 2014-01-17 2:38
Colours almost plasticky bright & a superb pov to draw our eyes into the scene. A terrific shot, Rosemary! And the lamp up there really is the crowning element for me.
Angshu (55259) 2014-01-23 22:22
I can hardly imagine such colours! This looks like Italy perhaps if not in your country. Quite fantastic!
The perspectuve has been well defined with the road and the pastel colours of the houses creates fine interst. Also interesting to note is the absence of even a single soul in the frame!
kiks (11749) 2014-01-27 7:15
I specialy like the long perspective on this composition. THe yellow lines enchance the effect.
ourania (29345) 2014-01-28 11:01
your note contains very interesting information about this town but, even without it, your picture makes it look like a very lovely and enticing place. I like very much the way you exalted the perspectives and the details and colours along this picturesque street. The perspectives converge and lead to an attractive red house in the distance. I love the graphical representation of the quiet backstreet, the strong colours and the overall brightness, even in the shade. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great evening,
Hansaphotos (6593) 2014-02-10 11:01
Excellent picture of this colourful and narrow street. Amazing how they have used an old bike to make a lamp post. The purpur moldings around the doors and windows in the foreground really stands out well. Wonderful work! Thanks.
Have a nice evening.
