This shot was taken during a drive from Baltimore to Mizen Head in County Cork. Taken from an elevation of about 140 meters and looking in a south-westerly direction, the small fishing village of Crookhaven is across the channel to the rear of my left shoulder. Cockle Beach and Brow Head are directly in front of me. An area steeped in history including evidence of Bronze Age habitation, this is a wild and beautiful part of Ireland.
The village of Crookhaven has a distinguished history as the last port of call for ships going to and from America. Over the centuries ships stocked up with provisions here before tackling the Atlantic Ocean. All the shipping lines had agents here to tell the ships in which port their cargo had been sold. At the beginning of the 20th century it was said that you could cross the harbour on the decks of boats. 700 people lived and worked in the village against the 29 permanent residents today. Marconi came here to try to get his first radio message across the Atlantic and he fitted the first telegraphic equipment to the Fastnet Rock Lighthouse to communicate with the passing ships.
Brow Head was a vibrant copper mining area in the nineteenth century; operations began at Brow Head mine in 1852 when Sir William Brougham and Samuel Hyde formed a partnership and set up a private company. The building you see perched on top of Brow head is a signal tower dating from around 1804. Major shipping lines, including Lloyds and Reuters, developed the site and used it to communicate with passing ships using semaphore.

Colori meravigliosi, visioni romantiche e paesaggi ricchi di grande fascino.
Una composizione eccellenteed un soggetto di grande respiro che ricorda le tue belle foto scattate in Africa.
Ciao e buona serata

what a scene this is.
when i think about traveling to Ireland, I envision myself walking along windy rolling craggy hillsides...JUST like this sort of place.
but what makes this one even better is the history here, imagine the activity in its prime years with all those ships!
fantastic looking scenery in this part of the world and you captured it so well. love the colors, the depth, the rolling up and down, and even a hint of caribean colored water!

Hi dear Rosemary
Great panfocus landscape view of so clear and sharp image by deep exposure. Rocks, the sea and green are perfectly balanced and composed by your high inspiration.
All the best and have a good day! TAKERO

What a beautiful image, especially in the larger version, with great depth and wonderful hues of brown, yellow, green and blue in the soft light. Good composition too - there is nothing that leads one's eye out of the picture and the area with the buildings above the little peninsula is a well placed focal point. A real pleasure to view and an interesting and informative note. Well done and best wishes.

The other attraction of Ireland is its landscapes typical colors. I am delighted, by discovering these colors in your composition of a nice depth of field.
thanks for sharing

the colors, oh me oh my, they are incredible! Not only the beautiful wild and rugged landscape that has its own rich palette, but the sky itself has blue and tones of pink and purple, a really fantastic shot of this place. A beautiful sense of depth and scale too, as we look down the hill to the sea beyond, and even it has such a vivid color to it. Love this, one of the nicest shots of Ireland I've ever seen. I must try and visit here myself someday.
All the best

you were blessed with excellent weather over there. Good weather changes the whole perception of Ireland. It appears as a beautiful and so colorful country then. Amazing colors you captured here: the blues and greens and brownish foreground with these typical yellow bushes. Very attractive sky as well.
I had a pleasure to be there and I loved it but I know it is a bit less popular place then the Ring of Kerry.
Have a great weekend,

That's a nice and colorful landscape, a beautiful picture with a great depth of field.
It should be nice to hike over there.
Royaldevon (21379) 2013-09-27 12:22
The colour contrasts emphasise the difference in vegetation and farming practice. The distant fields explain why this is called the Emerald Isle!
Great sense of depth from the f/g rocks to the distant Brow Head and you have used a good dof to include fine details for the viewers.
Have a great w/e,

Hello Rosemary ,
what a stunning view and you have captured all the beauty and drama of the rolling landscape ever so well in a first rate composition.
The little road that winds through the scene helps to give it a fine depth.
A lovely photograph.
Warm regards Les.

Amazing and tranquil seascape just looking at it feel like being there and suprisingly packed with much history too! - in particularly when you mention the name Marconi. I think there are so many good viewpoints on this vista and you've picked the most strategic one here what is presumed to be the best photo layout. Considering the conditions, you seem to be getting to grips extremely well with the camera, the weather is sweet, great foreground details, vivid colours and the near slopes that have been rounded smoothly dropping gently below. I personally love how the contrast is enhanced by strong green and the deep blue sky so stunningly, adding lots of vigour to the total shot. Thoroughly enjoy this shot and your worthy effort is rewarded! My congrats

Je avez choisi un beau pays du nord pour vos vacances, ce paysage aux contraste des couleurs est magnifique, la profondeur, les détails, c'est pas le désert de Nambie mais c'est aussi beau a voir....très jolie présentation

What a wonderful place!
What a great picture!
Saturated colors, chosen pov and composition are the highlights here!
So many details to be enjoyed!

Everything has already been said, I can only agree!
ChrisJ (91200) 2013-10-01 13:07
A superb landscape shot from Ireland (or Eire... maybe they are sensitive) with good color and sharpness. I like the high pov and the reflections in the lake and less so in the blue sea beyond. I like the warm cold color contrast between the blue water / sky and yellow heath. The lush yellow green pastures in the centre are eyecatching. Good descriptive note on the place. Tfs!
brianmcc (5786) 2013-10-04 10:25
looks like you got some great weather on your visit. the coastline around ireland is stunning, and your picture here captures that perfectly. your high viewpoint with the rocks in the foreground is excellent to look over the peninsula to those beautiful green fields across the water.
delpeoples (48576) 2013-10-13 4:53
A majestic Point of View of this wonderful countryside. The blues and green are quite luminous and contrast superbly with one another. Excellent Rule of Thirds framing and clever use of the f/20 aperture.
Thanks for sharing, have a lovely day.
