This photo was taken in a small town of Cobh. Cobh (pronounced "cove") is a seaport on the southcoast of Ireland in County Cork. From here hundreds of thousands of mostly hungry and penniless Irish men and women left to build a new life, especially in the Famine years of 1844-48. Cobh was the departure point for 2.5 million of the six million Irish people who emigrated to North America between 1848 and 1950. On 11 April 1912 Cobh (called Queenstown then) was the final port of call for the RMS Titanic as she set out across the Atlantic on her ill-fated maiden voyage...
Today, Cobh is a nice tourism spot with large cruise liners stopping each summer. Leisure and commercial acctivities have improved in recent years.
