This photo was taken at a deserted beach near Pollett Arch at Fannad Head in County Donegal. I was standing out on a rock ledge at the mouth of a pirate cave and felt like a kid in a lollyshop.

An image with a definite air of mystery to it; you can imagine Long John Silver with his parrot coming into frame any moment:-) The long exposure time brings a silky sheen to the waters helped by the slightly misty atmosphere. In essence, a set of rocks but beautifully captured and transformed into a lyrical composition.

I like this composition very much.Very end of day atmosphère. I like the texture of the water created by the long exposition. Very well done.
Have a nice day

Quite a moody shot here but the colours and heavy sky sum up Ireland's weather rather well don't you think Lisa? I can imagine smugglers and pirates lurking in these waters quite easily... a romantic notion for a serious and scary business if one considers today's pirates. I'm more the romantic and thinking of Johnny Depp or even Keith Richards .... shiver me timbers and all that ;)
Go well dear friend
PS. Forgive me, I got so carried away I forgot to mention the very good exposure here and I love the FG detail

Now that's a dramatic shot, and there is such an air of mystery and spookiness that I'm surprised you didn't get some zombie pirate ghost skeletons somewhere in the scene! The rock in the upper right (which in my mind is named dead mans rock) looks like a very dangerous place, and the perfect marker for a place to bury all that pirate booty! I like the green mermaid wigs splayed over the rocks too, creepy and beautiful in equal measures.
Excellent sense of solitude and loneliness here that makes this really beautiful. What can I say but YARRGHH!! haha.
Have a great Sunday :)
chawax (20760) 2014-06-22 6:38
Nice shot ! The composition is well balanced, horizon at third line, rocks in the FG to add depth and the big rock on the right at a strong point for attention. The dark light creates a very nice atmosphere. I love too the long exposure time.

Attractive atmospheric tide pool scene, marine plant encrusted boulders exposed at low tide, wispy water movement, dominant rock monolith, and all in grey hues.
I enjoy exploring tide pools to observe marine life and collect sea shells and this looks like a fine place to visit.
Thanks for sharing,

this is another stunning image. I love the moody colors and the smooth water caused by the slow shutter. Good use of perspective to lead the eye through the image. The image looks like the illustration of a fairytale. My compliments!
ikeharel (77263) 2014-06-22 9:15
Long shutter result in a beautiful "silkey" texture of the water.
Grey sky aloft gave the sea the same tones, and with the rocks along the beach, created a mysterious scene.
Fine taken, have a nice new week,

I can`t begin to imagine how much time and effort you must have put in to this hugely atmospheric shot, beautifully composed and presented it`s a fabulous shot.
From the splashes of green sea weed to the brooding sky it`s full of detail, drama and intrigue.Love it.

La signora delle acque colpisce ancora.
Effetto seta magnifico, l'acqua lambisce le rocce in modo fantastico, eccellente inquadratura e splendida composizione.
Dopo aver letto la tua nota, ho iniziato a immaginarmi pirati dietro a ogni roccia....

Une pose longue très réussie qui crée une atmosphère spéciale et intéressante.

uh oh, this is as cool as a stainless steel! it is always fun to see such different typical photos from different geographies. not only for the famous spookiness of ireland, but i would never say that this was from australia or italy. great, weedy photo.

Ciao cara Lisa,
You might have been playing pirates but you certainly didn't have a patch over your eye when you took this one - it's a beautifully composed shot with the most magnificent lighting.
Although you don't make us privy to your exif data, I presume that this one was taken in early morning or late evening on a long exposure and probably with the aid of a ND graduated filter which has brought out some wonderfully moody details in the sky and yet allowed the bright silvery reflections on the smooth foreground water to be seen to the full.
A beautiful photograph with fabulous light, lovely foreground colours, fine composition and, as always, exquisite details and sharpness.

a sensual and beautiful piece of photographic art this. The filter slowing the world down and thereby adding the silky tones and enhancing the tranquillity so irresistibly. That's one heck of a lollipop! :-)
Have a good week - B.

Perfectly balanced photo composition. I like the light conditions allowed to capture all nice rock details and also nice reflections. Excellent photo.

Lisa, thanks for giving the exif info in your note. It's very useful. Nice, moody shot with subtle pink coloration. Love the soft water in fg.

Hi dera Lisa
Le côté merveilleux et sauvage de Irlande très attirant, bel effet de la longue pose rendant l'eau lisse, le rendu et couleurs des rochers sous le ciel gris, très jolie
Belle journée a toi

Wonderful Irish ambiance with interesting low speed
Nice deep foreground
Only the pirate ship is missing :)
macjake (71731) 2014-06-24 10:41
Hi again Lisa
So you post a pirate ship in your previous post but don't have it in your title, and now you have a beach scene but you call it playing Pirates...thats cute.
You know what else is funny...as i'm looking at this beach scene, my patio door is open and my neighbor is cooking seafood on the grill...so i'm looking at your photo of the ocean and i can actually smell fish.
this one is right up your alley isn't it.
did you have your fisherman shoes on so you don't slip and fall?
looks might dangerous here!
love the placement of the horizon line, glad you didn't place it in the middle of the frame - sometimes that works sometimes it doesn't. but placing it where you did almost always works.
now i gotta get that taste of seafood out of my mouth..haha..
Mics (980) 2014-06-26 2:46
Perfectly executed shot! I love your FG detail and the mood it evokes. Nice work!
Have a nice day,
ChrisJ (117201) 2014-06-28 10:21
A moody and atmospheric shot of the bleak inhospitable seashore and grey cloudy skies. Good sharpness despite the longer time exposure and motion blurred water. The green seaweed adds a touch of familiar Irish colour. Tfs!
asajernigan (21427) 2014-07-07 17:18
The long exposure adds a sense of mystery to the scene. The lighting is outstanding and you have used it nicely to create a mood for the scene. The rocks in the foreground adds nice depth for the scene.
Gigidusud (21247) 2014-07-13 0:02
Ciao cara Lisa,
Un bel paesaggio con un'atmosfera misteriosa, splendido l'effetto seta sull'acqua. Complimenti!
Attenta ai pirati!
annjackman (21903) 2014-07-14 2:08
I loved this as soon as I saw it. The greys and browns are subtle and atmospheric, and the green seaweed gives a little punch. It is a very well composed and taken image that suggests solitude.
Kind Regards, Ann

I always enjoy digging deeper in to your portfolio for another of those gorgeous, long-exposures which are very much one of your trademarks. In this case, short enough to give some nice definition on an interestingly cloudy sky, but long enough to smooth out the water. A great shot, thanks, Iain.
