Photographer’s Note

Photo of Keem Strand, on Achill Island. This wonderful strand is at the very end of the island, between Benmore cliffs and Croaghaun mount. This strand used to be a departure point for Achill Island fishermen. Until the 50s, Keem Bay waters used to host basking sharks. They haved disappeared today because they were hunted by fishermen from Achill Island who exploited their oil. Keem Strand is also the departure point to climb to Croaghaun Mount (668 meters heights), whom north-east side falls into the sea and is considered as one the highest cliffs in Europa.
