The Connemara landscapes are truly beautiful and it is understandable that the wildness of the area has such huge appeal.
Overlooking Clifden Bay to the South and Streamstown Bay to the North, the Sky Road rises more than 150 m above sea level and has spectacular views of the Atlantic, the islands of Inishturk and Turbot and Clifden village.
In this shot you can see the Inishturk and Turbot Islands and the spit of land in the centre of the shot is Ardmore. Taking this shot proved to be a challenge as the wind was gusting strongly and I had to brace myself against a wall in order to be able to stand upright! A few minutes after taking this the heavens opened and the rain bucketed down.

You certainly seemed to have timed this perfectly to capture the temperament of the Irish weather, the blue sky promising warmth and sun, but never far away something else promising a much wetter immediate future!
I love the shapes of the fields, and how your rich colors highlight those shapes so well. Even off in the peninsula, its so apparent. Love how the whole scene fades off into mist too, a magical scene.
All the best

This stunning photograph really portrays the ruggedness of this corner of Ireland and by your note you have sampled some of the weather conditions which are all to frequent for this area. The different shades of green in your shot are a reminder of why this is called the Emerald Isle. Lovely misty look about the horizon and a sign of the weather closing in. Really nice presentation.

Ciao e buon fine settimana

another very nice landscape from Ireland. Great wild nature. Fine contrast and nice colors. Photo I like.
Have a nice evening.

This is a magnificent view of this windswept area by the ocean. The green and yellow tones of the fields are stunning and the horizon is lost in the haze and the silvery glow of the sun shining on the sea.
ktanska (22638) 2013-10-05 11:03
Beautiful light which gives good contrasts on the foreground. Nice clouds that seem to give some rain on the background. That peninsula with patches of fileds looks nice too.

You really captured an exquisite lightshow here. I love how the warm light contrasts so well with the grey tones in the BG and has illuminated the green and yellow tones. The sea looks pretty wild and unfriendly, like the end of the earth. And everything looks so unspoilt and wild. Love it. Thanks for sharing.
Have a beautiful evening

Très belle photo de paysage où tu as su jouer avec la belle lumière du moment et utiliser au mieux ce joli ciel nuageux.

I think this view do not need any comment-its beauty speaks for itself!
I could stand there for hours and admire it.Ah,Irish coastline is so beautiful.I´m glad you had good weather, which helps alot in this case to bring out the whole beauty of the scene(these clouds build really unique mood of the scene).
But there is so much more I like about it-like for example the colors and contrast they create(especially different shades of green) and also different shapes of smaller fields in the background(very picturesque!).
Have a nice sunday

you handled the difficult light here superbly and maintained the atmosphere of this amazing view so beautifully. A truly mystical and magical image that radiates the ambience of the emerald isle so succinctly. Stunning!
Enjoy your Sunday - Brian.

you've captured such a dramatic and fascinating natural spectacle in this photo! The composition has been kept wisely simple and you have ensured perfect depth and clarity so that all the elements can display their textures, energy and fascination. The lighting has a very evocative role in this image and the colours have assumed their most suggestive version. There's great dynamism in both halves of the composition and this makes the effect of the approaching storm even more powerful. Excellent work, congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great Sunday,
dekanski (1053) 2013-10-06 5:09
But impression is that the horizon a little "leaks" to the left!
dkmurphys (42389) 2013-10-06 10:04
Truly spectacular. I love what you did here in that dramatic atmosphere. Well taken, enjoy a fine evening.
abmdsudi (32471) 2013-10-06 22:16
I find that the dramatic clouds movement interesting and how nature takes its course giving some really good shadows on the foreground. What a great display of light and colour, the beautiful composition and the smoothed depth focus in on all the key elements that work with this scene. The blue sky alone makes this so much better than a record shot and the sea is also something fantastic. A most interesting exposure with the light coming from left all adding character to the coastal scenery. Quietly dynamic and somehow so restful as well in this, braving the element is handsomely rewarded, Congrats

Man i love these photos!
what a breathtaking viewpoint.
So all you were doing was driving around and you pull the car over?
now thats a dream scenario.
what can I say Rosemary? its just so beautiful, and you did well to combat the wind.
the colors, the depth, the landscape...amazing views.
enjoy your day

siudzi (27691) 2013-10-07 10:36
This one is absolutely amazing with beautiful combination of perfectly saturated colors, warm tonality of lights and wonderful layers of the composition. Love it! Well observed and taken image with a great sense of the moment. TFS.
bayno (18334) 2013-10-08 1:02
the light is unique and the gorgeous view, looking at the picture I have the impression that the sea has two different levels, I know that it's just an optical effect, very beautiful shades of greens and excellent detail and depth....
have a good day....here in Rome there is a strong storm..
ChrisJ (91132) 2013-10-08 5:28
A gorgeous coastal view from the emerald isle and not hard to work out how it got its nickname with such lush pastures. I like the streak of sunlight illuminating the fg fields. Good sharpness and the distant blue sea at left has a nice shimmering effect from the backlight. The barbed wire fence in the fg adds depth and layering. Tfs!
jcpix (6456) 2013-10-08 19:02
I think it would be safe to say, you've done Noel and his country proud with this shot! :) The simplistic nature of this is what speaks volumes here, the lush green landscape, blue sky with passing clouds and the light....oh, the light...is just sublime! A real beauty captured and completed with precision, a presentation to admire for sure. Thanks for providing this view with such clarity and detail. Have a great day ahead.
Didi (51253) 2013-10-10 16:57
Wonderful view under vieautiful lateral lights who give an interesting 3D effect
tatadalou (3975) 2013-10-23 12:19
Great compo with magical light. The few rays of sun that alternate with darker areas in the foreground are really attractive. You found a breathtaking viewpoint.
sevy (14267) 2013-10-25 11:18
Exactly the kind of wild landscape I like. We can feel the wind only looking to the shot. And what a light!
I would only prefer not to have the fence in the frame.
brianmcc (5786) 2013-11-01 12:00
this is an amazing view from the sky road. i posted a picture from just about the same spot a couple of years ago. the light here is fantastic with the sunlight illuminating the landscape, yet the rain only moments away on the horizon. the colours here are wonderful and very attractive. i love the sky road its a fantastic drive. looks like you made the best of your recent trip.
