Tropical Sunset Donegal Style, a photo from Donegal, North

Photographer's Note

This is Donegal Bay as seen from the Old Graveyard near the Pier. I have previously uploaded some photos of this area as I found it so strange to see an almost tropical sunset during the cold Christmas of 2008. Within this graveyard are the ruins of a Franciscan Friary dating from 1474, but the graveyard itself is many hundreds of years older, dating back to 1000 AD. It is here in the Franciscan Friary that the Annals of The Masters was compiled, which is an attempt at the collection of Irish writing dating from 2958 BC to 1616. The Annals were finally completed by the friars and moved to County Leitrim. Red Hugh O'Donnell built the Friary and occupied it until the English took occupation in 1601. It was seriously damaged by the besieging O'Donnell army and then finally abandoned after the Flight of The Earls.

the most effect to me makes the shadow of the stone cross. What a mood, and this was at Christmas? Wow!

immagine stupenda, ottima scelta del momento di scatto, quando i colori sono particolarmente caldi. Bella la verticale col sole che fa capolino dietro l'isola e gli e,ementi in FG in silhouette.

Ciao Lisa!
Mi piace molto questo tramonto irlandese, con le silhouette delle pietre tombale. La croce Celtica sta molto elegante di fronte alla bella spiaggia ed al tramonto nel fondo.
La pietra che somiglia a un menhir a sinistra le da alla foto un bell'equilibrio!

Gran bel taglio verticale qui, Lisa.
Un bel gioco di luci ed ombre dove spiccano in silhouette, le sagome delle tombe del cimitero in un eccellente contrasto cromatico con un suggestivo tramonto sul mare che dal blu sfuma sul rosso.

J'aime beaucoup le coucher de soleil sur ce cimetière. Le point de vue est bien choisi et l'image raconte une histoire. La fin du jour en rapport avec la fin de la vie.

i've always said, even from the beginning of my time here on TE, that there aren't enough graveyard photos.
they can produce wonderful images and atmospheres.
not too morbid is it?
anyways...you've got an interesting mixture of motifs here.
you have death, and life (start of a new day) with the sunset, leading to a new sunrise.
i love that
its a thoughtful/reflective type of atmosphere, with excellent colours.

hai catturato una bellissima immagine, nella quale i raggi del sole al tramonto sembrano indicare la silhouette della croce celtica. Gradisco molto il contrasto tra il colore scuro del cimitero e le morbide tonalità di colore del cielo e del mare. Un tramonto forse più suggestivo di quelli tropicali. Bravissima!

Hand me a pinacolada and I'd truly be in heaven, well heavens waiting room going by the foreground graves.
I think you are turning me towards vertical framing, this one looks so good.
Just the right amount of light on the foreground, you can still make out the objects but you've retained the silhouette effect synonymous with sunset images. Yes, yes, I've been using a Thesaurus to get away from the usual platitudes.

Beautiful colours in the sky and water, and interesting silhouettes that tell us this is Ireland. I think I would have cropped some of the dark foreground out, or maybe I would have tried to brighten it up a little. Very informative note.
