Dunlewy Old Church Photo

Photographer’s Note

A church you already saw on TE, but the shots I saw here gave me the will to shot it in my turn ! We are in Dunlewy, foot of Errigal Mountain. The ruins of this church are incredibliy charming. The natural site is wonderful, with Lough Nacug on one side and the famous Poisoned Glen (you can see it in the backround) on the other side, with Errigal Mountain dominating all of this. The photo was taken at sunset. Not easy to frame it, because the church is surrounded with walls so it is hard to stand back as you want and there are shadows on the ground. Note there is a very comfortable hostel just a few minutes from there, the Errigal Youth Hostel. One I recommend ;)

Hello Olivier,

We see never the same object on the same way, every photographers look with his eyes and with a other composition, this is exactly the lovely side of TE.
I find your picture very wll, soft of colour and nice presentation.
One small question, why is the church not right, with a tool of your photoshop is all completely OK.

Olivier,
Thanks for the nice Papagolfade. Your composition is fine with the placement of the church to one side and the great landscape on the other. The lighting and colors are great with nice sharpness and DOF. The photo does seem to be tilted to the right just a bit, this could be corrected in PP.

The place really looks amazing Olivier. And your composition is really nice. Probably I would have tried an angle where only the mountains and the church appear or clone the white home there on the right. But that's minor. What is not minor is the light. The sky has some blue in it so I am guessing that the day wasn't completely overclouded. But your shot doesn't show any light... It's all in the same light range. Or the sun was blocked by some cloud (and in this case, try to wait a bit next time) or someting has passed on your pp. Remember that light is crucial and must be clearly seen on your photos. The cloudy sky is good but it also lacks some contrast. But I guess you needed a polarizer to make it more dramatic. Anyway, it's a nice photo.

Indeed a very striking picture based on the great color combination of the church and that sky behind. The angle of the shot works well giving the scene nice depth. Excellent work!
