This place is one hell of an amazment...
It's called the Witches' valley, and is located at the foot of a glacier in the Kerlingarfjöll area, east to the track F35 wich crosses the desert from north to south. From the Kerlingarfjöll "ski-station" one can walk a path up to the spot. A ski-station in Iceland is a very small village or group of houses where people come using their huge 4 wheels drive cars and get a lift from a truck on the snow to ski. It is said to be the biggest ski-station in Iceland since it welcomes more than... 200 people in winter. Well funny enough it's a dreaming landscape one then finds. Little hills colored in yellowish-white and orange by the sulfuric rocs - little hot streams from the hot pools and little cold ones from the glacier meeting here and there, producing vapor and bubbling, solfatares where hot air is thrown in the atmosphere by the insides of the Earth, and on the top of it the glacier you can see on the picture, melting under the sun. Cold and warm flirt with eachother anytime, when one crosses a river one doesn't know wether the water will be hot or cold, the air is filled with the permanent "frrrrrr" of the solfatares, and the colors of the scenery are truly unbelievable... We saw all that under a brilliant and bright blue sky, carefully watching our feet from the treacherous hot holes in the ground and the fissures from which burning water (100°) flees... It was like witnessing the birth of mother Earth herself somehow...
