Photographer’s Note
This is one of a number of photos I took of jellyfish washed up on the beach at Osar, North-western Iceland.
This reposted version is higher resolution (800 pixels side length compared to the original 500). I've also increased contrast and sharpness slightly.

Amazing that it is so clear. In Blegium (when i see them) they are always milky.
Anyway about the shot.. great stuff, i like the clouds, as they seem to follow the sea. The foreground with the jellyfish just rounds it off. Nice one!

Hi John,
I like the blurred clouds, showing the direction of wind. So I can imagine the power, that forced that animal to strand.
Cheers Christian

Hi John,
Amazing and diffirent shot...
To locate the jellyfish clear to the scene taking this shoT after the waves draw away is good idea...
The view of the clouds swept by the wind and the waves are also fantastic...
Well done
Stay well

This a very nice shot John. A minimalistic composition but our eyes are drawn to the jellyfish. Good PP. I think I remember the first post.

Molto bella questa immagine con la medusa in primo piano. Sembra ghiaccio. Mipiacciono queste foto distorte dal grandangolare, con un primo piano evidente che da profondita'.

Hi John,
I am just discovering your fine gallery. I prefer this image above others, perhaps due to technical quality of sharpness - although most other images may not be comparable because scanning slides may be tricky. Anyway, those other images are still "somewhat unsharp reproductions of fine photos".
Back to this image. I really like the the compo with waves repeating the pattern of clouds. In this respect the jellyfish almost seems to mirror a single cumulus cloud.
Congratiulations.

Nice composition, focused in the right place.
The jellyfish seems to be an eroded fragment of crystalline ice that just arrived to the shore from the dark frozen waters (like in your other picture)
I plan travelling to Iceland this year, seems to be a country with amazing and unspotted locations to visit.
Thanks for sharing.

hello John,
i really like how you use your wideangles and this picture is a fine example of your skill.
light, composition, sharpness and colors work very well together - i particularly like the smooth effect of the clouds on top as contrasted to the sharp jellyfih in the bottom ;)
be happy,
kostas

Hello John,
This is a sensational photo. I often encounter a washed up jellyfish but I have never thought to photograph it before. I think the black sand here really helps to outline the jelly most effectively. Much of the structure of the jellyfish would have been lost visually if the sand had been white. I like the softness of the tumbling water and wandering sky in contrast with the sharpness of the sea-jelly. Many aquatic animals that were once incorrectly named 'fish' have been slowly renamed - sea-jelly, sea-star etc. Great photo mate, it has a lot of feeling and depth.

Hello John,
I missed this one. I was directed by your today post.
I like this one a lot because of the difference between the clear crystal of the jellyfish versus the dark sands environnement. The composition is very good and well equilibrated with the clouds in the top driving the look very far.
Yves.
