Photographer’s Note
This is the explosion of the big bubble of the strokkur geyser in Iceland.
Just like this one
Strokkur (Icelandic for "churn") is a geyser in the geothermic region beside the Hvítá River in Iceland. Strokkur is only a few metres away from Geysir.
However, unlike the big Geysir which does not erupt anymore and may be dormant for years at a time, Strokkur erupts very reliably every 5-10 minutes, hurling boiling water to heights of up to 20 metres towards the sky. After a few seconds, the fountain subsides and the waters around it calms down. During these times, Strokkur appears as a sheet of clear water surrounded by steam.
On the picture is the big bubble at the start of the eruption. This is not something one can see without taking a picture at a fast speed.

Wow, it must be a spectacular phenomenon. The way you show it, in both shots, is simply amazing. You say it goes up 20 meters and people stay so close? Well done.

Wow - amazing capture. It looks fantastic. The colours in the water are beautiful.
The whole scene has a sense of drama, except the guy casually standing there! Kind of a funny contrast.
Nice one!

Hi Michel
Great shot and well caught. I imagine this thing explodes pretty fast. Did you fire off multiple shots to get this one?

Oh this is very cool Michel, I've seen some geyser shots of course, but never captured at this stage. You must have been very quick indeed. The inclusion of the man works well to give the geyser some scale. All very nicely done.
Thanks, John

Bon w-end

Hi Michel
perfect timing in taking this. I know how difficult is to capture this very short moment. I didn't manage in producing anything good in the few minutes I passed near the strokkur.
So thank you for sharing this decisive moment

Bonjour Michel,
