Photographer’s Note

Hi everyone,
I just got back from a trip to the volcanic island, Iceland.
This is from one of many hiking trips I did and it shows how colourful Iceland can be.
In the left foreground, there is steam coming up from one of the many hot springs. A truly fascinating sight to see how active the whole of the underground of Iceland is.

It's great to be back again here on TrekEarth and I'm looking forward to join the community again.

Landmannalaugar (is., meaning the hot springs of the people of (the) land) is a region near the volcano Hekla in the south of Iceland.

The region lies in the Highlands of Iceland and is said to be one of the most beautiful of Iceland because of its various volcanoes and the ensuing special colouring of the landscape. Pink and blue ashes as well as black lava is found at the volcano Bláhnjúkur. Red, brown and yellow are seen, for example, at the sides of another volcano next to it, the Brennisteinsalda. An obsidian lava field reaches from the sulfur hot springs near this mountain down to the river and the hut of the Icelandic Hiking Club. There people bathe in a naturally heated little river. Sometimes you have to watch out, not to touch the river bottom too much: It is like a bed of hot charcoals.

Landmannalaugur is one of a few places in Iceland where the lava is of a more viscous acid type, resulting in the colours so very different from the black basalt type lava seen elsewhere in the country.

A very famous hiking trail, Laugavegur, leads from here to Þórsmörk and over a mountain pass, Fimmvörðuháls down to Skógar.

Amazing place, and excellent clarity picture. I like strong colors and contrasts between snow and ground. Very good composition!

Christian, I'm in awe. What an inspiring place. That must have been a wonderful trip and you got a most gorgeous shot. The sharpness of it is so crisp that I can see even the snows texture! Very good composition and I love the off cneter of that mountain on the left side. I hope you have many other shots from this trip! Looking forward ....

The photo have all the qualitys. a lot of extra plus.
Minus is the border and the typography wich doesn't work at all

Hi Christian,
I followed your traces in the trek from Landmannalaugar to Skogar and I took a picture of the same sight as you, only with a little less snow on the ground.
The place is wonderful and your picture has great clearness and depth of focus.
