The peninsula of Reykjanes located at the south-west of Iceland is a zone with strong geothermic activity. This turquoise blue lake known by all as Blue Lagon (or Blaa Lonid) is not a hot spring but well an artificial lake created by the surplus of water collected by the geothermal power station Svartsengi which feeds Grindavik with hot water and heating. The water drawn from 2 km of depth and heated by the magma at 240°C, arrives to the surface at 70°C. This water is naturally rich in salts and charged with silica in suspension which gives it this incredibly blue color even by bad weather. The water rejected by the factory runs out in the field of lava surrounding and supplies a basin of cure at a watering-place famous for its curative properties (eczema and psoriasis).

Lovely photo, France. The colours are excellent and I like the placement of the rock in the foreground to balance the composition and give some depth / foreground interest. TFS. Best wishes, Paul.

The colours of the water is simply stunning: this clear turqoise blue is something I rarely saw. The picture has a lovely depth with the clouds at the horizon completing the composition.
Thanks for sharing

Bonsoir france,

Amicalement
JJ

Hi France,

for me the true flavour of this image is with no doubt the milky consistency of this turquoise water...almost like a hint of blue curacao in pina colada...wow...cheers, arturo
